For a long time, not much happened in the live-service game The Division 2. But for a few weeks now, the shooter has been gaining momentum again and attracting players back to Washington. MeinMMO has taken cover for you to check the new content of the well-known shooter for its potential and tells you what might await you there in the future.
What is currently happening in Division 2? For a long time, the cover shooter Division 2 didn’t have much to offer and was running on low flame. Ubisoft only repeated old pursuits for which players had to replay the same missions over and over again. This became too boring for many agents, as the players in Division 2 are called.
But then came Season 9: In May, the announced Season 9 arrived, which was supposed to end the boredom in The Division 2. Ubisoft rekindled the small flame and not only brought the new co-op mode “Countdown” but also new gear into the game.
- Including the new meta armor set “Heartbreaker,” reminiscent of the Striker set from Division 1 and plays just as outstanding.
- Named weapons, such as the “Kingmakers” with the talent “Perfect Death Candidates,” which increases weapon damage by 20% against marked enemies.
- Or a fun LED outfit through the “Golden Ball” event that gives you blinking shoes.

Also, players who had already leveled everything to max in Division 2 had something to do again. The newly introduced “Know-How” is a grindy expertise system that makes you farm not only every piece of gear again but also play with them. Because through this, they gradually become stronger. Even uninteresting loot becomes useful again, as you can also increase your expertise level by donating materials at the workbench.
- If you level a weapon or armor piece to expert (level 10), which goes relatively quickly, you can then improve it by one percentage point in damage or armor.
- Even more upgrades can only be obtained from then on in exchange for grindable materials. You are exchanging a lot of grind for slightly more gameplay advantages.
Season 9 Man-Hunt ends with a cliffhanger: With the new expertise system, Ubisoft is making its agents stronger. But why? The answer could already have been provided by the cliffhanger at the end of the story of Season 9.
Surely this still involves the well-known Season Manhunt system from Division 2, in which you have to hunt and defeat various targets one after the other to kill the primary target at the end. However, Season 9 was different for the first time, as it ended surprisingly cooperatively.
The “Hunter secret” could soon be solved: Additionally, Season 9, through its primary target Captain Lewis, likely indicates the resolution of one of the biggest mysteries of The Division 1 and 2, namely where the overpowered and rogue agents called “Hunters” actually come from. As a Division agent, you are currently even collaborating for the first time with the True Sons, one of the opposing factions in Division 2. And shortly before Season 10, it becomes clear: A former target who narrowly escaped with their life might bring the sought-after clarity for The Division.
More and better story: Ubisoft had already announced a larger story in advance. They want to give “more sense to the narrative” to make the story of Division 2 “more gripping.” Season 9 was definitely an interesting preview of that. Especially since this is a question players have been asking since Division 1. And it currently looks like this might indeed not remain a secret for much longer.
However, there is already an initial setback. Ubisoft announced just last week a postponement of Season 10 from August to September 2022. So, as so often before, we have to wait a few weeks longer for the story to continue.
And how is the “Quality of Life” in Division 2? Future updates are set to bring not only a new story but also some “Quality of Life” changes to the game. However, the old problems of Division 2 are still very present.
This starts with the notorious Delta errors and suddenly popping enemies and ends with shooters who can sometimes shoot through all cover. Nothing has changed much in that regard, even if Ubisoft keeps making small game adjustments, like color changes of dropped items and similar.
But somehow Division 2 is also fun again. And what’s more important, Ubisoft seems to still have bigger plans for the once-so-successful cover shooter. Especially if more Legendary difficulty levels are introduced in the future, starting with the missions “Tidal Basin” and “Manning National Zoo.”
It seems that the fun has apparently not only been communicated among passionate Division players. New players are also finding their way back into the game. And I must say that the new expertise system, the new activities, and the interest in the Heartbreaker set have also motivated me to dive back into Division 2 after a year-long pause, to loot opponents.
The upcoming Season 10 and 11 promises a lot, especially excitement, for all interested players. The so-called “Hunters” are probably one of the most dangerous enemies a Division agent can encounter since Division 1. Should Ubisoft actually shift the story focus in that direction, that would again give you a reason to visit your agent in Division 2 in Washington to gain strength.
How about you? Has Division 2 also captivated you again, and are you hoping for more information about the rogue Hunters? Or do you think the end of The Division 2 has long been sealed? Feel free to let us know in the comments.
