A single character in Baldur’s Gate 3 is hated to the core – by almost everyone. He has worked hard for this.
In Baldur’s Gate 3, there are seemingly endless NPCs, so each player can find one or another that they can’t get enough of. However, there is one single NPC in the game that is universally hated by the entire community. The aversion is so strong that a small part of the player base has come together to dedicate an entire subreddit to this disdain. We are talking about Wulbren Bongle.
Who is Wulbren Bongle? Wulbren Bongle is the leader of the “Ironhand Gnomes” and essentially a terrorist in the game. He tries to destroy the Steel Watch in Baldur’s Gate and wipe out all Gondians in the city. While this is somewhat understandable, considering the significance of the Steel Watch for Gortash and the cult of the Absolute, it is ruined by Wulbren’s demeanor.
He insults everyone around him – and permanently. No matter how often you help him, he is always dissatisfied and shows no spark of appreciation. This is especially true for Barcus, another deep gnome, who embarks on a long and arduous journey to save Wulbren – only to receive disdain in return.
What has the community done? Out of the rejection of Wulbren Bongle, the subreddit named “FuckWulbrenBongle” has emerged, where all contributions revolve around why this gnome is so utterly hated. The members of this subreddit try to outdo each other, proving why Wulbren should be sent to hell.
All that rejection sure brings a lot of creativity, as there are plenty of funny memes in the subreddit against Wulbren, like this one:
Also popular is a song on YouTube with the simple title “F*** Wulbren Bongle”. And, well, the name says it all.
This makes Wulbren Bongle even more unpopular than the nastiest villains in Baldur’s Gate 3. Because those at least have their little fanbase – but this deep gnome seems to be different. In this regard: Be nice to the NPCs from Baldur’s Gate 3. Except for Wulbren Bongle.
