A CEO shares that he pays for his colleagues’ expensive subscription to the AI bot ChatGPT. And it pays off, as it improves work.
Akash Nigam is the founder of the company “Genies.” It is now a huge company worth 1 billion US dollars, selling tools and other projects to big stars like Justin Bieber and earning a lot of money from it. In total, Nigam has 120 employees.
In a conversation with BusinessInsider, he explained that he pays 2,400 US dollars (about 2,000 euros) monthly so that his employees can get a Pro license for the AI bot ChatGPT.
And it pays off, he says. Most of the time-consuming and boring tasks would simply be taken over by the AI, allowing for better investment of free time.
Nigam taught employees how to use AI efficiently for work
In March 2023, Nigam began encouraging every team – Research and Development, Technology, Product, Finance, Design, and Accounting – to learn how to use the AI chatbot to automate monotonous tasks. Despite the investment, Nigam is convinced that integrating ChatGPT into his teams’ workflows will improve the company’s bottom line.
Meanwhile, the AI is being used for various tasks:
- The research and development team asks the AI questions about math and programming.
- The AI creates scripts for presentations based on sketches.
- Other employees use the AI to draft internal policies and answer technical questions.
This way, a lot of time can be saved that can be used for other tasks.
Nigam believes that the bot can help his company reduce costs. Because he needs to hire fewer people. But exactly what Nigam seems to be so excited about makes many people afraid: they fear that the AI could become so good, that they might end up without a job because they are replaced by AI.
What’s next? In the future, Nigam wants to factor AI into performance evaluations: employees should receive good grades when they use tools like ChatGPT to “effectively speed up” their departments. AI will therefore continue to play an important role in his company.
