A cat travels in an Amazon box across the USA. Thanks to a microchip, she is found and can be properly identified.
Returns at Amazon are not unusual. What is unusual is that a cat is accidentally shipped in a box to Amazon.
This is reported by our colleagues from CNN. CNN spoke with the owner and also with the employee of Amazon who discovered the cat in the box.
Thanks to the microchip, the cat returned to its owner
Why did the cat go missing? The owner’s husband wanted to pack work shoes for shipping. The man packed the shoes, kept one pair, and put the other five back in the box.
But when the husband went to get scissors and tape, the cat likely slipped into the box. And thus began a long journey of 630 kilometers across half the state for the animal.
The cat was quite lucky: The husband had not sealed the box tightly, so the animal inside the box did not suffocate. Furthermore, the weather was mild enough that the cat neither froze nor overheated.
Additionally, the woman who eventually found her in the warehouse recognized that this was just an accident and that no one had maliciously tried to dispose of their pet.
How was the cat found again? The owner had implanted a microchip in her pet at that time. This is a tiny chip that is implanted in pets, allowing them to be located or identified.
In Germany, it is similar to TASSO, which considers itself the largest free pet registry in Europe. Here, too, pets are registered so they can find their way back to their owners.
Thanks to the chip, the owner was able to determine that her cat had ended up in Los Angeles. Additionally, the cat had been found by an Amazon employee. The employee took the cat to the vet, where the microchip with the owner’s data was also found. Thus, the journey ended well for both the cat and the owner after six days.
