The upcoming “Season of the Wish” in Destiny 2 promises some changes in the Crucible. For instance, a fun bug that allowed players to use Sparrows in PvP during the “Season of the Witch” will return as a permanent feature. MeinMMO says what else you can expect.
This is what Bungie announced for PvP: In Bungie’s blog “This Week in Destiny” from November 9, the Destiny team presented some far-reaching PvP changes that will roll out in the upcoming “Season of the Wish” starting November 28.
- Bungie will reintroduce a new 3v3 Quickplay node and introduce a new 6v6 Quickplay node, consisting of 6v6 party and 6v6 relentless.
- There will also be a revamp of the available nodes in the Crucible menu – including one that shifts Control to a rotating 6v6 playlist that occasionally includes new modes.
- One of these new modes will offer you fast Sparrow action and thus turn a former bug from Season 23 into an official feature in the PvP of Destiny 2.
We summarize the key information to show you what will happen in PvP of Destiny 2 starting November 28.
One Step Closer to “Combined Weapons”
This is what will change from bug to feature in Season 23: In September, there was a bug in Destiny 2 that allowed players to use their Sparrow in PvP and run over other players with it.
Players expected that the bug would be fixed quickly since it was too much fun for some. But Bungie decided otherwise. Instead of removing the bug, they kept it, and players enjoyed themselves with it.
In yesterday’s “This Week in Destiny” blog post, Bungie even took it a step further and stated that in one of these new modes, the former bug will also be officially turned into a feature called “Sparrow Control.” Including a unique reward.
One of the Control modes in the rotation is Sparrow Control. It’s control, but with Sparrows – from bug to feature! We hope you will enjoy it in the selected weeks of Season 23. Keep an eye out for a unique medal that can only be earned during these weeks. The playlist maps of this mode will be carefully curated and designed for larger maps.

Some players expressed that they would have preferred a return of the Sparrow Racing League in Destiny 2. But at least this is a step in the right direction.
These modified control modes, which switch by combining and adjusting mode and modifiers and allow players to do the same, are also a step towards the future of PvP that Bungie aims for.
What Bungie Still Plans for PvP in Season 23
The PvP team, led by Destiny 2 Game Director Joe Blackburn, continues to work on improvements for PvP.
In addition to changes in modes and rotations, Bungie is also continuing to work on checkmate, matchmaking, spawn points, and competitive.
Checkmate Will Be the Primary Control Mode
- Checkmate Control will become the primary control mode in the first weeks of Season 23.
- Season 23 will reduce the cooldown reduction of abilities in checkmate from 50 % to 30 %.
- The Crucible labs will include checkmate-3v3 conflict and checkmate-3v3 countdown: rush, the trials labs checkmate-control area.
Optimized Player Search, Less Skill-based Matchmaking
In addition to the optimization of abilities, Bungie is also making adjustments to how player search works.
- Starting Season 23, there will be more matchmaking as a form of “lobby balancing”. This works similarly to team sports, where team A picks first, then team B picks twice, followed by two more picks for team A and so on, until all players are in teams.
- As for abilities, Destiny 2 will be able to create and adjust a trust rating per playlist starting Season 23, so that the assessment of abilities varies more from match to match. However, this will initially remain limited to the control playlist.
Prevent Unfair Kills at Spawn Points
In PvP, the Destiny community has also criticized the spawn points. Bungie’s goal is therefore to improve the respawn of Guardians in a safe and less predictable manner.
- Bungie will experiment with new features for the respawn system starting Season 23 to provide more variance and unpredictability.
- This should also help avoid issues with respawn traps and camping.
- Further tunings for maps are also planned, this time for downtown, meltdown, and endless vale.
What Changes in the Competitive Division
The changes to the competitive division include less strict rank adjustments, promotions and relegations, as well as modes and their rules.
- Bungie eliminates the performance factor. What counts are wins and losses.
- They will also lift the inflation protection. This means your rank point gains will no longer be reduced when your rank exceeds your skill.
- Additionally, Bungie will maintain the deflation protection. This means that if your rank is below your skill, you will still be promoted.
With all these changes, Bungie hopes that players will feel more comfortable playing as they wish – whether casually, outside the meta, or intensely competitively – without the feeling of being stuck in a particular skill level.
Further changes, also regarding the “Trials of Osiris,” the endgame PvP, are still in planning. The Crucible is also expected to receive a different appearance soon.
Season 23 promises not only exciting new features in PvP but also signals a fundamental change in the handling of game modes and the integration of player feedback.
Given the crisis at Bungie, the Destiny 2 community will certainly not only await the changes with excitement but also evaluate them critically.
What do you think of the changes? Do you think it’s good that a bug has become a feature? Or do you think that’s pointless? And what do you think of the other changes? Do you like it? Then let us know in the comments.
