In Marvel, there are not only villains with godlike superpowers and high motives. A notorious villain would only be a minor character among the Avengers, but as an enemy, he causes many problems, especially because he has no real motivation.
Which character is it? When thinking of the Avengers, most people think of great heroes like Captain America, Iron Man, or the Hulk. However, there are also more boring
heroes in the team. For many, Hawkeye is one of them. He simply has a bow and can shoot well.
But he is not the only one who can do that. The villain Bullseye has no special abilities; he can just aim, shoot, and throw well. In contrast to Hawkeye, he is one of the vilest villains in the Marvel universe.
Bullseye’s greatest nemesis is probably Daredevil:
A sadist who can aim well
Who is Bullseye? Bullseye’s real name is Lester, but much more about him is not actually known. He made his first appearance in Daredevil No. 131
in 1975. He is an assassin who simply enjoys killing, which is why he also works professionally in that field. Before becoming an assassin, he tried to be a baseball player and a government employee, but he found that too boring.
Bullseye does not have mutant abilities or superpowers from a serum; he can simply aim quite well. He doesn’t have a specific weapon that he uses. Through his training, he not only has an excellent physique, but he is also a skilled athlete and martial artist, methodically fulfilling his tasks by putting himself in his targets’ shoes.
Additionally, he has a high intellect and extensive knowledge of the human body and various weapons. Besides regular firearms or the bow, he uses numerous throwing objects and even close-combat weapons during his missions. Moreover, he can use almost anything as a weapon, such as toothpicks, playing cards, or even his own tooth. His throwing power aids him in this.
In the comics, it eventually happens that he reinforces his bones with adamantium to provide additional protection.
Bullseye is obsessed with Daredevil
Although Bullseye collides with many heroes due to his profession, his greatest nemesis is probably Daredevil. While he was fulfilling contracts in New York, he encountered Daredevil, whom he was even able to defeat, but in a later battle, he lost against the hero.
Afterward, Bullseye became downright obsessed with Daredevil. Through his partnership with Kingpin, the two encountered each other regularly, and Bullseye regularly killed Daredevil’s (love) partners.
After the event “Secret Invasion,” Norman Osborn founded the Dark Avengers. There, the scientist exploited Bullseye’s obsession and recruited him as a team member. To avoid being recognized, he disguised himself in public as Hawkeye.
Bullseye is more frightening than Thanos, even though he is not as powerful
Why is Bullseye such a good villain? Although villains like Thanos or Hela are significantly more powerful than Bullseye, they usually have a motivation, even if one does not always fully understand it. Bullseye does not have that; he has simply always been good at what he does and enjoys it to the fullest.
He is essentially the antithesis to heroes who use their talents to do good. One could also compare him to Batman. Bullseye’s abilities don’t matter, as his actions in combination with his lack of motivation are so shocking and brutal that he is more frightening than godlike villains.
Since he primarily operates in New York and fights against people who have little to no superpowers, his lack of remorse, sadism, and madness are intensified. Even characters like Thanos showed emotions. Another villain is significantly more supernatural but no less evil: A great threat in the Marvel universe has existed for 20,000 years, but only a certain group can defeat it.
