iwot Studios, which was formerly known as Red Eagly Entertainment, secured the rights for series, films, video games, and comics related to The Wheel of Time in 2004. The video game project is quite ambitious.
The CEO of iwot Studios, Rick Selvage, told Variety that the open-world game should include everything that appears in the books, as well as all elements of the backstory
. They want to avoid being restricted to a specific location or time period. According to Variety, the book series has over 2,750 named characters.
Craig Alexander will be leading the project. He is the former Vice President of Product Development at Warner Bros. Games, and he oversaw the development of the MMORPGs The Lord of the Rings Online and Dungeons & Dragons Online. Additionally, he has held senior positions at Activision and EA.
The studio anticipates a 3-year development period, and the game is set to be released for PC and consoles.
