A former Romanian professional athlete bought an expensive Ferrari and left it in a garage in Munich. Ten years later, the owner of the garage contacts him. The car owner had forgotten that he had parked the vehicle there.
Who is it about? Ion Tiriac is a Romanian athlete who participated as a hockey player in the 1964 Winter Olympics, but later became a professional tennis player. In 2023, his fortune was estimated at around two billion US dollars on the Forbes list.
In a recent interview, the millionaire collector recounted how he forgot that he had bought a Ferrari F40 and left it in a garage in Munich for a decade. This was reported by colleagues from Xataka.com.

What happened to his car? In the interview, Tiriac reports that he bought a Ferrari F40 for 700,000 US dollars. But then he had a problem: he did not have enough space to house the expensive car. Due to lack of space, he left his Ferrari F40 in a garage in Munich. There it remained for ten years until he received an unexpected call:
10 years after the 80s, Mr. Becker from the garage, not my Boris Becker, called me.
Ten years after the 80s, the garage owner called him, where he had parked his car. The German reminded Tiriac that his sports car was still in his garage. Tiriac explained in the interview: “I had forgotten my Ferrari for a decade.”
What happened to the vehicle? Instead of picking up the car, the owner decided to sell it directly, and there were two reasons for this:
- On the one hand, he still did not have suitable space to park the car.
- On the other hand, because the car needed to return to the factory in Maranello after ten years of standing still to have its engine removed and restored. And Tiriac probably didn’t feel like bearing those costs.
What about cars today? By the way, Tiriac has not given up his passion for cars and technology. He now owns hundreds of rare cars. A portion of them, around 150 vehicles, can be seen in the “Țiriac Collection” near Bucharest Airport.
In total, the collection consists of over 400 vehicles, which are displayed alternately.
