In Pokémon GO you need to complete various special research tasks. Some of them are really difficult to solve – and have been challenging trainers for years.
In Pokémon GO you can complete various special researches. They usually consist of several steps that revolve around catching, powering up, battling, and collecting Pokémon.
One of these special researches that every player receives first appeared in 2018 and is called A Mysterious Discovery
. This research must be completed to obtain the coveted Pokémon Mew.
However, trainers frequently report struggling with the task. The culprit is the transforming Pokémon Ditto.
Trainers search in vain for Ditto, can’t complete quest
What is the problem? Catch a Ditto
– this task in step 5 of the research is easily stated, but very difficult to solve. Because hunting Ditto specifically proves to be difficult: it disguises itself as other Pokémon and only reveals itself once you have caught it.
There is a limited list of Pokémon that can be Ditto, but an encounter with the Transform Pokémon is not guaranteed. Events where Ditto appear more frequently are also quite rare.
This means trainers have to rely on their luck to eventually catch a Ditto. And this is exactly where the problem lies, as several trainers share on reddit.
This is what trainers say: In the subreddit for Pokémon GO, a trainer shared his progress on the task under the title This. Damned. Challenge.
He describes that he simply cannot find any Dittos, even though he knows the transformation list.
In the comments, he receives a lot of support, as others have problems as well.
- I caught a Ditto BEFORE I got the task, and then couldn’t catch another one, and that drives me so crazy, writes user nxxptune (via reddit).
- The same here. I’m convinced I’ll die before I complete this quest, says user DollimusMaximus (via reddit).
- I took about 4 months to find one. I finally got one from a Rattata, describes another (via reddit).
In fact, Ditto is not the only monster that players are after.
Equally notorious is the legendary Pokémon Tornadus, for which players need to take a snapshot for a research task – only you can’t currently find it in the game, as it is not in the raids.
Also, for other researches, such as the quest about Meltan, you need Ditto. Trainers also warn regarding A Mysterious Encounter
: In the next step, you have to evolve Magikarp into Gyarados, which costs 400 candies. So it is advisable to avoid consuming your Magikarp candies beforehand.
