In Oblivion Remastered, there is an Easter egg that existed in the original 19 years ago. You can find a room with an NPC whose voice may sound familiar to Bethesda fans.
Which NPC is it? Whether in the original Oblivion or in the recently released Remastered version, there are quite a few quirky NPCs in the game. Just think of the Adoring Fan, who is also in Starfield. Less known is a man named Alban Corinis.
You will find him in a secret room in the game and can interact with him. You will witness different emotions of the NPC. The special thing: The character is voiced in the English version by none other than Todd Howard, head of Bethesda and lead developer of Oblivion.
If you select the right options in his dialogue, you will hear some funny lines and may even get insulted. However, you must first find the secret room.
How to find the Easter egg and annoy the NPC
Where is the room located? The room with the NPC is secret mainly because it cannot be found in the actual game. Instead, you have to open the console on the PC by pressing ~. Here, you can enter one of the many cheats from Oblivion or activate the room in question.
Enter the following command: coc toddtest
Even the command gives a hint that you are about to deal with Todd Howard. After confirming it with Enter, you will land in a small house where you will find the NPC Alban Corinis.
Talk to him and select one of several emotions from the menu, such as Neutral, Happy, Sad, or Angry. You will then hear Todd Howard’s voice say one or more sentences in the respective emotion.
In the following video by the YouTuber KnightRaven, you will get a sense of Todd Howard’s talents as a voice actor:
If you repeat an emotion, the NPC’s attitude towards you changes. If you select the Angry option, he initially says: “What? That really annoys me!”
If you repeat this often, your popularity will decrease. Then, if you switch to the Neutral option, the NPC insults you with “You’re really a bastard.” It seems that Alban Corinis does not like it when you play carelessly with his emotions.
While much has indeed changed for the better in the presentation of Oblivion in the new version, Easter eggs like this still exist. Did you already know it and have you tried the different emotions? Another cheeky element from the original also makes its return: With the remaster of Oblivion, not only does the role-playing game return, but also a paid horse armor
