Anyone who finds old Pokémon cards from their childhood could sell some of the pocket monsters for a lot of money. However, two friends are speechless when they see what one of them has done with his cards.
What happened to the cards? On Reddit, the best friend of a Pokémon fan shows that this person has found a Charizard card again after many years. But when he was 9 years old, he had a brilliant idea to protect his valuable cards from thieves: he cut off the corners so that no one could steal his cards.
Because once the corners are cut off, he would immediately recognize his cards if they were stolen by other kids. To still keep the cards neatly packed, the 9-year-old at the time put them in a protective sleeve.
What was a good idea for the best friend back then now leaves the friendly duo speechless.
Last year, the Pokémon TCG Championships took place in Honolulu:
Brilliant Theft Protection, but Annoying Years Later
What is the problem with that? Currently, the prices for some cards from the Pokémon TCG have risen. For Charizard, depending on the condition, there is a potential price of almost 10,000 euros. For Charizard cards from the very first edition, collectors can even expect a six-figure sum.
However, the price is significantly affected by the condition of the card. They are rated on a scale from 1 to 10, with a rating of 1 representing significant damage to the card. Presumably, the cards of the best friend of the Reddit user would fall into this category.
Therefore, it is annoying that the user cut off the corners of the cards as a child. He could have fetched high prices today if he sold them. Now he can only throw them away, give them away, or keep them anyway.
What do others say about it? Many users in the comments think it’s good that the theft protection at least worked. After all, no child seems to have stolen the cards, as the best friend still has them. Moreover, it’s not about reselling cards at a high price, but about playing with them as a child.
One user even has a good idea on how he can still present the cards nicely in his collection binder: he should just clip another card behind it so that the corners of the back card look like those of the front card.
There are several steps required from the initial draft to the final design of a new Pokémon card.
