Destiny 2 Witch Queen is soon coming to an end and will be replaced by the new DLC Lightfall. Nevertheless, the deceptive DLC of the Witch Queen offered many important events that you should know before the start of the new DLC. We bring you up to speed in our overview.
What are these moments? Our listing contains the most important moments in Witch Queen and its four subsequent seasons, which have spun new story threads. These events are particularly important as they have provided significant insights into the story and could greatly influence future narratives.
The Traveler provides the Hive with Light
What happened? During the story of the Witch Queen, Guardians discovered that the Witch Queen willingly obtained the Light from the Traveler. With these abilities, she and her followers received the powers of the Guardians as well as their own Ghost shells.
The interesting part is that the Hive had been chosen by the Traveler for a long time. Unfortunately, the Traveler could not bless this insect-like race as darkness was faster and infected them with the worms of darkness. The ways of the Traveler are unfathomable.
The voice in the darkness has a face: The Witness
What happened? After the Guardians completed the story behind the Witch Queen, a cutscene featuring the Witness unfolded. This immensely powerful being of darkness commands the dark fleet and is essentially the puppeteer behind the apparent escalation between the conflict of Light and Darkness.
Until now, the Witness had hidden behind his voice, but in this cutscene, he was also given a face. With large black eyes, a smoke-like hairstyle full of tormented faces, and a mysterious voice, he now commands the offensive against the Guardians. He also seeks out new apprentices to carry out his orders unconditionally.
Lord Saladin joins the Imperial Army of the Cabal
What happened? In the Season of the Resurrected, Caiatl, the Cabal princess and daughter of Calus, investigated the Radiant Brood of the Witch Queen with her Psions. These could be analyzed and better understood thanks to experiments. However, Crow was critical of these experiments and accidentally killed an important Psion who led the investigations.
This act of misconduct had to be punished, and to prevent Crow from being torn apart, Lord Saladin “sacrificed” himself for him. For this reason, Lord Saladin now works with Caiatl and her imperial army. He is now obliged to hold a seat in her war council.
Nevertheless, good old Valus Forge still makes an appearance for the occasional Iron Banner, though not as frequently as before the Witch Queen. Moreover, his new commander always keeps an eye on him and observes everything he does.
Zavala confronts the shards of his past
What happened? The head of the Guardian Vanguard is Commander Zavala. He is known for his unwavering, strong temperament and always remains hopeful in front of his Guardians. However, in the Season of the Haunted, Zavala was psychologically tested by the arrival of the Forsaken Leviathan.
In the past, Zavala was a rebellious Lightbearer who often could not be tamed. One day, he met a woman named Safiyah, who saw her purpose in helping people in need with medical aid. However, she was just a human, but Zavala was fascinated by her fearlessness and willingness to help.
Zavala and Safiyah gradually grew closer, and one day they found a human baby on the battlefield of the Fallen. They both wanted to raise this child, and so they decided to leave the Iron Temple and lead a peaceful life.
Everything went according to plan until their shared son wanted to emulate Zavala and was mortally wounded in combat against the Fallen. Since then, Zavala has blamed himself for this tragedy, despite many centuries passing.
Eramis is not as evil as assumed
What happened? In the Season of the Looters, the head of the House of Salvation, Eramis, made a comeback. Freed from her icy prison, she was tasked by the Witness to find and collect many vessels of the former Witness-student Nezarek. While she may be seen as a villain, it becomes apparent in the Season of the Looters that she has a good core.
She rescued the daughter of Mithrax when she was endangered by the Radiant Brood. Even so, she remains in contact with Mara Sov in the Season of the Seraph and thus shows her presence. It is quite possible that she might change sides in Lightfall and team up with the House of Light.
Osiris awakens from his comatose slumber
What happened? In Beyond Light, Osiris was taken over by Savathun. She guided his body and tried to influence the following story.
When she was then freed from Osiris by Mara Sov through exorcism, Osiris fell into a comatose state. Until then, his fate seemed uncertain, but the 14th Saint did not give up and never left his side while his friend Mithrax was in support.
Actually, the Witness wanted to regain the darkness sealed with the fragments of Nezarek. It was still the pure, old darkness, the really good stuff from ancient times, making it a darkness that could be useful for what the Witness planned.
However, the Guardians were quicker, and at the end of the season, Mithrax extracted this power to wake Osiris. For this, he brewed a so-called “Mummy Tea” from the remnants of Nezarek. That was also the end of the story of Nezarek.
At least, thanks to the old Nezarek power, Osiris is once again among the living. But what consequences will this drink have for the old Warlock? That remains to be seen.
Rasputin is back online and has a body
What happened? In the Season of the Seraph, everything revolves around reassembling Rasputin, the warmind. In doing so, the Vanguard also wants to utilize his combat power in the conflict against the Hive and the Witness to somehow win the fight between Light and Darkness.
With the help of the Guardians, Rasputin was finally implanted in an Exo-body in Season 19 and can now assist the Vanguard with his arsenal of war satellites, thanks to Ana Bray.
His ultimate fate is still open.
Calus has been crowned the new student of the Witness
What happened? Even in Beyond Light and Witch Queen, many Guardians wondered what had happened to Calus and whether he had succeeded in contacting the darkness. It was assumed that in the Season of the Haunted, Caiatl’s father had merged with the Leviathan ship, but this assumption turned out to be false.
Instead, Calus managed to make a pact with the Witness that would ultimately make him the Witness’s student. He has now been given a massive new ship with his face on it, his own army, and leads the battle in Neomuna, the new destination of Lightfall, with the “Shadow Legion”.
Whether Calus will still be held accountable and if Caiatl will get her revenge will likely only be revealed in Lightfall, so stay tuned and “push” yourselves hard.
