The summer is here and even though it’s warm outside, you can spend your time playing exciting MMOs, online games, and MMORPGs. We show you why you should play these nine online role-playing games now.
It is always said that in summer, not much happens in games. Especially with new MMORPGs, things look really bad in 2019.
However, there are enough existing MMOs and MMORPGs where you can experience a lot in the coming months, as big updates or interesting events are coming up. We show you what’s happening over the summer.
Albion Online
The sandbox MMORPG is getting the big Percival update on July 10. This introduces randomly generated single-player dungeons and also brings new customization options for your hero and additional skills. 20-vs-20 battles in cities also provide variety.
Furthermore, the MMORPG is doing very well. According to Steamcharts, there are an average of over 5,000 players online at the same time. So, you will find enough players for your adventures or PvP battles.
Dauntless
On May 21, the Monster Hunter-like action RPG Dauntless officially launched – and it was immediately overrun by players. While there were some server issues because of this, the large number of players also means that you should quickly find someone to hunt Behemoths with over the summer.
This summer, four Twitch Prime bundles are planned for the free-to-play game, bringing interesting items. These include cosmetic items as well as patrol boosts and more. If you want to test this still quite new game over the summer, we have some beginner tips for you:
Destiny 2
Big changes in the form of the free-to-play transition and the new expansion Shadowkeep are expected on September 17, but it still falls under the summer calendar. In the expansion, you can expect a journey to the Moon, where you confront a threat in a dark fortress with the returned Eris Morn.
Moreover, the announcement of the expansion and the free-to-play version has led many to become interested in the online shooter again. This means you can currently find many players in Destiny 2.
Final Fantasy 14
The popular MMORPG will be expanded with the Shadowbringers expansion on July 2. It continues the story of the online game and takes you to another world called “The First”. You will explore the two cities Norvrandt and Eulmore, as well as other areas where numerous adventures await you.
In addition, the maximum level will be raised from 70 to 80 and the playable races of the Viera and Hrothgar will be introduced alongside the jobs Gunbreaker and Dancer.
Guild Wars 2
The MMORPG Guild Wars 2 also invites you to play together with friends during the summer. From July 24 to August 14, the Festival of the Four Winds takes place.
During this event, you can relax on the beach, search for sky crystals, or trade with the merchants. Additionally, you get to fly around the cliffs with your griffin and greet the Zephyrites. In the Crown Pavilion, you will face foes from all over Tyria, including elite bosses. During all activities, you collect festival tokens that you can exchange for rewards.

No Man’s Sky
Hello Games’ space online game is getting a big free update this summer. Beyond aims to expand the multiplayer aspect. However, the developers are still keeping details about the exact content and how the multiplayer will look under wraps, as always.
Furthermore, with the update, you’ll also be able to play No Man’s Sky with a VR headset via Steam VR and PlayStation VR, which will immerse you even more in the gameplay.

The Elder Scrolls Online
On June 4 (for early birds on May 20), the big Elsweyr expansion launched, taking you to the namesake region. In the homeland of the cat-like Khajiit, you must face a long-sleeping dragon.
In August, the Scalebreaker DLC follows, where you will explore two new dungeons that are thematically connected and continue the story of Elsweyr. Not much is known about the new adventure yet, but it likely revolves around the dragon hunters of Sai Sahan.

World of Warcraft
The MMORPG classic invites you to play this summer for two reasons:
The update Rise of Azshara comes on June 25 and introduces not only adjustments to the game itself but also the two new areas Nazjatar and Mechagon. A ton of new content awaits you.
WoW Classic officially launches on August 27. This lets you experience the MMORPG as it was during patch 1.12. As the beta already shows, it’s a very nostalgic gaming experience aimed primarily at long-time fans.
The summer will be quite interesting for MMO fans. Here we have a list that generally reports on the currently best MMOs.
Pokémon GO

If you don’t feel like sitting in front of the console or PC during the summer heat, there’s still Pokémon GO. With the mobile MMO, you’re outside catching Pokémon, collecting items, or battling in gyms. Pokémon GO can even help you explore the area if you’re on vacation somewhere.
In July, a mega-event traditionally takes place in Pokémon GO. From July 4 to 7, the GO Fest takes place in Dortmund. Special Pokémon will spawn more frequently and you’ll have the chance for many Shinys. At the same time, players worldwide will solve special challenges. If these are completed, numerous bonuses related to experience points will be awarded.
At the end of the summer, an Ultra Bonus is planned. Niantic will surely release another big surprise for Pokémon GO.
