Season 1 of the live-action adaptation of One Piece was so successful that Netflix has given the green light for a continuation. Thus, the great adventure of Luffy and his friends on the Grand Line begins. MeinMMO author Jasmin hopes that certain scenes will not be neglected. The author presents 8 scenes in more detail.
Warning, spoilers: The text contains spoilers until the end of the Alabasta Arc.
In my free time, I secretly dream of becoming a Straw Hat Pirate. I have been following One Piece since the beginning and am always up-to-date with the manga. The anime and the Netflix series have quickly captivated me.
I can hardly wait for the creator Oda to continue the story. As a fan, I sincerely hope that Season 2 of One Piece on Netflix does not ruin some of the most important moments.
The first season of One Piece already had many sad moments, especially the childhood of the Straw Hat Pirates was anything but rosy. However, in the present, Luffy’s crew will also experience many emotionally charged moments.
I present to you 8 scenes that Netflix must get right in Season 2.
A big whale causes big drama
The first tragic story occurs as soon as they enter the Grand Line. The Straw Hat crew finds themselves at the giant whale La Boum via the Reverse Mountain. The marine mammal is covered in scars because it rams its head against the Reverse Mountain.
The whale tries to destroy the mountain in this way to reach its friends. As a baby, it was separated from its herd and subsequently raised by pirates. The pirates promised to return one day, but to this day there is no sign of them. One Piece experts know why the pirates never came back.
Luffy challenges the whale to a fight, which ends in a draw. Luffy promises to return one day for a rematch. La Boum understands the gesture and is visibly moved to tears.
I am curious how Netflix plans to portray this emotional scene. If the whale is modeled after a real specimen with CGI effects, I imagine it will be difficult to depict such a large creature with tears of joy, which will also bring me to tears.
A trailer for Season 1 of the Netflix series can be found here on MeinMMO:
New member for the Straw Hat crew
The next waterfall of tears could come with the arrival of the next Straw Hat member. On Drum Island, Luffy and his friends meet the reindeer Chopper. Like the other members, he also has a sad story behind him.
Chopper ate a Devil Fruit that turned him into a humanoid being. However, as a hybrid, he found no friends among reindeer or humans. The only friend who stuck by him was Doc Bader, from whom he acquired medical knowledge.
But Doc Bader died in an explosion, and Chopper was raised by Dr. Kuleha. However, he never forgot his mentor’s dream: He wanted to bring cherry blossoms back to Drum Island.
As Luffy and his crew want to set sail, Dr. Kuleha and some residents shoot pink paint into the air, which, thanks to the shape of the island, looks like a giant cherry blossom tree. Chopper is crying rivers, and so did I.
Again, the question arises as to how Chopper will be portrayed in the Netflix series. It will be challenging to depict a reindeer-human hybrid in a way that we are not pulled out of immersion. Hopefully, Netflix finds an equally great actor as with the other Straw Hats who can perfectly convey Chopper’s emotions.
Let the Alabasta Arc have its own season
I sincerely hope that the Alabasta Arc will not appear anymore in Season 2 or at least receive enough episodes so that the story can be told adequately. The desert land has so many individual destinies and exciting battles that it would be a shame if the entire story were told in just two episodes.
The following 6 important scenes still exist in the Alabasta Arc that should not be overlooked:
- The civil war between the kingdom and the rebellion.
- Luffy meets Ace for the first time.
- The Straw Hats have to prove themselves individually in battles.
- Sir Crocodile becomes the first stronger opponent against whom Luffy must bite his teeth.
- Vivi’s farewell to the Straw Hats.
- The entry of Nico Robin into the crew.
Many One-Piece fans will undoubtedly recognize the scene in which the Straw Hats raise their fists into the air and the blue cross on their wrist becomes visible. Since they do not want their friend Vivi to be associated with pirates by the marines, they silently express their togetherness.
In that arc, what stood out to me was how often Princess Vivi cried. Whether due to her despair, a fight with Luffy, or the death of a beloved friend – the Alabasta Arc has many emotional situations.
The longest anime fight in history is over – has finally found a winner after a year and 61 episodes
