Godless is a miniseries from Netflix. It revolves around the outlaw Roy Goode, who is on the run and eventually finds refuge in the small community of La Belle – a town almost entirely inhabited by women following a disaster. However, his pursuers are hot on his trail.

Viewers praise the excellent performances of the cast, especially Jeff Daniels in the role of Frank Griffin.

The series is set in 1876 in the fictional town of Deadwood in present-day South Dakota, a settlement built on indigenous peoples’ territory. However, murder and corruption are not uncommon within the town.

The series impresses with a rough and typically Western atmosphere and portrays a merciless town where intrigues and power struggles are the order of the day.
Especially the complex and sometimes unscrupulous characters, portrayed by well-known actors such as Timothy Olyphant and Ian McShane, are praised by many viewers. The latter even received a Golden Globe Award for his portrayal of the ruthless Al Swearengen in the series.
Fun Fact: The actor Powers Boothe was originally planned for the role of Al Swearengen, but he fell ill before the pilot’s filming began. So, Boothe was replaced by Ian McShane but received a supporting role in the series as Cy Tolliver (via IMDb).
