Light Yagami is actually the protagonist of Death Note and initially not a villain at all. One day he finds a strange book associated with a Shinigami named Ryuku. As soon as Light writes a name in the book and has the face of that person in mind, they die.
Light takes a liking to the book and pursues the goal of killing criminals. He wants to create a better world where there are no evil people. He himself wants to rule this world as a god and decide who is to be killed.
However, over time, the young man becomes more and more megalomaniacal and even kills people who simply drag his name through the mud. He defines his own standard of justice and thus comes into conflict with the FBI. In an epic finale, he is ultimately defeated by his own weapons.
