The release of Destiny 2 “The Final Shape” is just around the corner. So, it is important to prepare for the launch. For this reason, we show you 7 things you should do to be ready for the release.
What are those things? Before any major release, Guardians should prepare and make arrangements to fully dive into the DLC. Each of the points we listed is optional and merely provides you with considerations of what you could do to have a more relaxed start in “The Final Shape”.

Invest your Legendary Shards
Before the release of “The Final Shape”, you should invest all your Legendary Shards to ensure they do not get lost entirely. The reason: Bungie wants to adjust its currency policy in Destiny 2.
Less is more, and since many Guardians are swimming in a pool of shards while others are sitting dry, Bungie will remove the Legendary Shards and use Glimmer as the primary currency starting with the DLC launch. So, go to Rahool, stock up on Glimmer, and try to get rid of your shards.
Redeem your earned Engrams
In your inventory under “Engram Tracker”, you can see how many Engrams you have accumulated with each vendor. To ensure these potential God Rolls do not get lost, you should redeem and decrypt them. Upon the release of “The Final Shape”, Bungie will delete these and reset them to zero, at least with the seasonal vendors. So, if you need items for your collection, it is important to redeem them.
Earn the Superblack shader
With the free event “Into the Light”, you can snag a special and limited shader, the “Superblack” shader.
This unique item from Shaxx is limited and cannot be obtained again once “The Final Shape” is released. So that you can cloak yourself in a dark black, we show you steps to quickly access the shader:
- Launch a round of Gambit on Legendary and exit the mode after opening the chests at round 10
- You need a team for this, as matchmaking is disabled
- Buy the repeatable bounties from Shaxx in the Hall of Champions after each run
- Complete all weapon quests from Arcite for a big XP boost and grab his bounties
This is currently the fastest method. As the grind with Shaxx is tied to his reputation rank, you will still need to engage in a certain grind.
Collect all seasonal weapons from Lightfall
In the last month before the DLC release, Bungie wants to celebrate big time, and to ensure that Guardians without DLCs and seasons can also benefit, Bungie has ensured that every player can obtain the latest weapon blueprints from Season 20 – 23. You will receive up to 4 blueprints every day if you participate in one of the currently active seasonal activities.
So, if you want to complete your collection or if you are a newcomer wanting to build a strong God Roll, now is the right time to check out Destiny 2.
Clean out your vault of unnecessary weapons
The vault has always held an important place in the hearts of Guardians in Destiny 2, and although 600 slots sounds like plenty of space for armor and weapons, for many, the vault is bursting at the seams. So, to make enough space for the new treasures from “The Final Shape”, feel free to dismantle some items.
Note that Bungie will increase vault slots by an additional 100 boxes at release. So you will have a bit more breathing room, but you should still declutter.
Complete important catalysts for Exotics
There are many catalysts for your weapons in Destiny 2 and these need to be unlocked. Weapons such as the Witherhoard or Izanagi’s Burden only unleash their true power once you unlock their catalyst.
So, to benefit from much more powerful weapons, you should perfect them and equip them with their catalyst. Most can be obtained either from Banshee in the Tower or through completions in activities such as the Crucible.
Choose the perfect fashion for the release
In line with the Superblack shader, fashion is an important item on the to-do list. Every Guardian knows that “Fashion” is the real endgame of Destiny 2, and to ensure you don’t look like a ragged, 200-year-old corpse, you should visit Ada-1 in the Tower, grab some nice shaders, and unlock new transmog options with her synthetic fabric items.
So, be strong not only with a deadly build, but also confront the Witness with your stylish boots in his thousands of faces.
