The Colony – Grenade Launcher

What can the weapon do? This exotic power weapon is actually not a grenade launcher. It’s more like an insect plague. Its grenades are a swarm of insect-like robots that track their targets and explode when they get close to them. It’s almost like having your own little mechanical pets joyfully trailing behind the enemies.

Furthermore, using this weapon feels like being in a crazy science fiction movie where grenades come alive and take control.

Fun fact about this weapon: During the development of “The Colony”, Bungie initially had trouble getting the concept of the weapon to work. There were issues with the projectiles that were supposed to track targets on the ground in a specific direction.

Instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, they wondered if there was something in the game that had this effect already, and it turned out that there was: The rabbits from the European Dead Zone.

So Bungie gave the rabbits a hyper-aggressive AI so they would no longer run away but instead chase targets. That’s also why “The Colony” could actually shoot with exploding and tracking rabbits during weapon tests. This was only changed in the end. However, some Guardians wish it were still the case today.

Monte Carlo – Auto Rifle

What can the weapon do? The auto rifle “Monte Carlo” was long popular only for its appearance. However, its features were especially well-suited for nasty melee builds, so it has always had its enthusiasts. But it is also an excellent PvE auto rifle with high stability, handling, and reload speed.

• With every kill, it has a chance to fully recharge the melee ability.
• In return, melee kills grant appropriate ammunition for this weapon.

The only thing you could perhaps criticize about this weapon would be its sound, which sounds a bit like “peas of doom”. But when Bungie granted the weapon the probably most unique catalyst in the whole game, this disadvantage was quickly forgotten.

The bayonet blade under the barrel of the “Monte Carlo” finally serves a purpose since Season 22 and is no longer just decoration. With the catalyst, Bungie ensured that players can now also effectively stab.

Fun fact about this weapon: The Year 1 version of the “Monte Carlo” was only a PlayStation-exclusive weapon until September 2015. Only with the move of Destiny 2 to Steam was it made accessible to all players in the context of the DLC “Shadowkeep” and the “Season of Dawn”.

Telesto – Fusion Rifle

What can the weapon do? Of course, a weapon must not be missing in this ranking: The fusion rifle “Telesto” the Besto. It fires energy bubbles (Void bolts) that stick to surfaces and enemies and detonate on contact with a delayed Void explosion.

As amusing as it is practical, you can also shoot at a teammate with “Telesto” and the teammate can then roam around for a while as a living bomb with the explosive bubbles on their body. The first one to dare to touch them triggers the detonation.

Fun fact about this weapon: The fusion rifle has caused the most bugs in Destiny 2 and thus also makes the developers at Bungie tremble when its name is mentioned. Currently, it has been involved in an incredible 42 bugs.

This is also the reason why the developer permanently placed the weapon in the hands of the gunsmith, so he always has an eye on it. Interestingly, the game crashed for some players after this change when they were on their way to the gunsmith. This was interpreted as revenge from Telesto for this constant repair move.

Since then, players in Destiny 2 are no longer surprised when this fusion rifle is associated with a bug after a significant update. This weapon is now so famous that it even received its own tribute in the form of an event from Bungie.

• On September 11, 2022, the Exo took over Destiny 2 and gained its own consciousness.
• The weapon took over both the accounts of Bungie and third parties: Shortly thereafter, the official Bungie account tweeted only the words of a power-hungry weapon.
• For several days, cryptic Telesto messages appeared in the game, and the fusion rifle even adapted effects from other Exotics, such as those of the Exotic “Graviton Lance”.
