In WoW: Shadowlands there are many different player types. But you have surely encountered these 7 clichés multiple times.
It has been just over two weeks since World of Warcraft: Shadowlands was released and numerous players are bustling in the Shadowlands. However, alongside all the positive vibes, there are also some bizarre encounters that cause us players to categorize others immediately. Here we show you some player types that you are guaranteed to have met in recent weeks – and that fit every cliché.
1. The Reading Refuser
Yes, reading quest texts is not exactly the core competency of some players. Yet, when a mission simply cannot be completed, most of us do take a look at the description to see how such a task is supposed to be accomplished. But not the Reading Refuser. After all, there are thousands of other players on every realm who can read as well. Why should he do it himself?
This leads to questions like: “Where can you actually find a [Versatility Write]?” What is surprising is that the corresponding item is already linked in the chat. A click on the item would reveal that it “can be crafted by scribes.” But apparently, it’s better if another player “reads it out loud” in the chat to make sure he understands.
It’s astonishing that the chat can apparently be read – but not the rest.
That the whole process takes much more time than simply looking at the item or the quest more closely plays a minor role. But hey, maybe this player just wanted a little social interaction – even if he doesn’t exactly appear to be the brightest candle on the cake.
2. The Guy with the 7th Character in the Starting Area
While most players probably focus on one or, at most, two characters to prepare them for endgame and season 1, there are players who have some decision-making difficulties.
By now, they have brought their 7th character through the intro of Shadowlands and have arrived in Bastion. After a few quests, they then realize that the class they chose isn’t that much fun or is way too complicated. So, they simply log on to the next character and repeat the game – only to have to go through it all over again two hours later.
3. The “There’s Nothing to Do” Player
Each of us has that one friend for whom the release of a new WoW expansion is the highlight of the year. Vacation is scheduled for the release, and then it’s binge gaming all the way. In the first week, he easily racks up 100 hours of playtime and speeds ahead. Content is consumed in turbo mode, quests aren’t read properly, cutscenes are skipped, and boring dialogues are quickly ridden away.
Usually, this player is also a specialized player who only likes one or two specific kinds of content.
And – oh surprise – this player realizes after a week that there is “nothing to do” in the new expansion. So, he has to keep posting in the trade channel all day long, “I’m bored” and complain about how he has nothing to do. He completely ignores that apparently everyone around him has enough goals and tasks to pursue.
It’s especially annoying when two of these colleagues meet in the trade chat – because then they lament publicly for hours that they simply have nothing to do.
4. The Google Helper
With a new expansion, there are always some uncertainties or mechanics that don’t immediately become clear to every player. When a little clarification is needed, players like to ask in the guild or in the general channel. But on every realm, there are these friendly people who know the answer but don’t want to share it. Instead, they have a clever saying on their lips like: “Google is your friend” or “You can read it on wowhead.”
Yes, that’s how communication is fun. Because who would have thought that you could actually receive an answer to a question from a search engine? One could almost come to the thought that someone would like to exchange information with another person and get insights from their own community.
Especially since some mechanics in Shadowlands are not explained directly, this is annoying – like with the chests in Torghast.
5. The Professional in the First ID
Many players haven’t seen all the dungeons of Shadowlands yet, but some are already professionals – and expect exactly that from their teammates. Who, two weeks after release, still doesn’t know the perfect routes for all instances by heart or cannot show at least 3,000 DPS has absolutely no business in heroic dungeons.
There’s no need for a lengthy discussion. “Faulty” group members who do not know the way by heart or deal too little damage are immediately voted out. The vote fails? Well, then the professional simply leaves the group himself. After all, his time is far too precious to spend with such mere mortals.
6. The War Mode Softie
The War Mode in World of Warcraft is a double-edged sword. After all, there are better rewards, but there is also the danger of being surprised and attacked by the opposing faction at any time.
That is exactly the problem. Because the War Mode Softie really has no desire for PvP and doesn’t even try to participate in such fights. But he activates the mode for the bonuses. As soon as he is attacked, he falls into an apathetic state and no longer defends himself. Maybe he brings out an emote like /yawn or something similar.
As soon as he is killed, “the big crying” begins: In the general chat, name-calling starts and complaints about the player or optionally the whole guild that had the audacity to attack and defeat him in War Mode. After all, everyone knows that you only have War Mode on for the bonuses, and anyone with a shred of sense should stick to that.
7. The War Mode Fanatic
On the other hand, there is the War Mode Fanatic. PvP is activated? Good! Then it will be utilized in absolutely every conceivable situation. Corpses of enemy players are camped for a long time, and the poor, little mage is repeatedly sent back to the graveyard.
An opposing player was friendly and helped defeat an elite opponent? What an idiot! The War Mode Fanatic immediately teaches him a lesson and kills him. Because a dead elite opponent and a dead player of the opposing faction looks like a double victory.
Corpses are then further desecrated with toys, and of course, spitting and laughing emotes cannot be missed to further humiliate the victim. You can almost read the smug sentence “If you don’t like it, don’t play it” on the player’s avatar.
