The Eternal Cylinder
This is The Eternal Cylinder: Similar to Away, The Eternal Cylinder is also a hidden gem, but distinctly weirder than the survival game in documentary style. In The Eternal Cylinder, a giant cylinder continuously flattens the world, threatening you and your habitat.
The entire world is populated by strange mutants, all of whom look as if someone sprinkled too much LSD on their magical mushrooms during design. The truly tripped-out creatures fit well into the slightly psychedelic world.
You play as Trebhums, a customizable species that you can develop through mutations. Mutations provide you with certain advantages like storage space or the ability to withstand environmental influences, allowing you to explore more biomes.
Survival is tough in The Eternal Cylinder: As the cylinder continually flattens the entire world, you are effectively always under time pressure and on the run. This likely creates a constant pressure.
Furthermore, you must also always pay attention to where you want to go next, as some areas are filled with deadly toxins or water that you won’t survive without mutations.
Some of the creatures are also hostile and will attack you. They have their own behavioral patterns that vary by species. Your Trebhums are quite helpless and apparently not particularly skilled at fighting.
As seen in the first trailer, you can also fight against all that. The video features a creature that looks very distorted and human-like, apparently pushing the cylinder. After it stops, it seems to attack you.
What we expect from The Eternal Cylinder:
- Tripped-out beings and many customization options for players.
- High replay value due to procedurally generated worlds
- High adrenaline factor due to the unceasingly moving cylinder
- Challenging puzzles and riddles that require specific mutations.
- Various solutions with different mutations
- Possibly co-op or multiplayer (not yet confirmed, but sounds fitting)
When and where does The Eternal Cylinder come out? The Eternal Cylinder is set to be released in 2020 for PC (Epic Store) and “on consoles”. It is still unknown whether that will be for PS4 and Xbox One or PS5 and Xbox Series X.
