7 New Features That CoD MW & Warzone Should Get in Season 3

The third season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and CoD: Warzone is still running for a while, but not all promised innovations have been implemented yet. MeinMMO shows you 7 things to look forward to in the ongoing season.

What are these innovations? In the roadmap for season 3 of Modern Warfare & Warzone in April 2020, the developers announced several new contents. Many of them have already been released, such as:

Some of the promised changes have already been confirmed or announced by the developers for the upcoming time. Other contents have been found in the game data or can be derived from existing information.

The YouTuber and CoD expert eColiEspresso has released a video with the information we are partially referencing here. The video in English is embedded here for you:

New Maps: Hardhat and Aisle 6

In the roadmap for season 3, two new maps have already been introduced that have not yet been added to the game:

  • Hardhat – a map originally from Modern Warfare 3. It is meant to be a map for regular multiplayer modes
  • Aisle 9 – a new map that apparently takes place in a section of the Warzone warehouse. Aisle 9 will be a Gunfight map

eColiEspresso suspects that a larger title update will be necessary for the two new maps. This will probably be advertised for some time in advance. It will take some time until the maps are released, and MeinMMO will inform you in due time.

New Operator: Iskra

Following the new operator Ronin, Iskra is coming as an addition to the playable characters in Modern Warfare and Warzone. She has already been spotted as the third in the bunch during the presentation of Alex before the start of the season and was speculated by fans.

It is now clear that she is coming and similar to Ronin, she will be available with a bundle, as eColiEspresso has shown. Iskra’s bundle is expected to include:

  • a Legendary Operator Skin: Saboteur for Iskra
  • two legendary weapon skins
  • a legendary knife skin
  • a legendary skin for the helicopter
  • more cosmetics like a watch, a finisher, a quip, an emblem, and a calling card

Ronin was surprisingly released with a playlist update and was simply unlocked in the shop. This may also happen with Iskra – perhaps already with the upcoming update from May 5th/6th.

New Shop Bundles and Cosmetics

Further bundles have been found in the game files that will probably be included in the Modern Warfare shop in the near future. Among them are:

  • Anime Express
  • Plunder Pack
  • the Kodiak bundle
  • Twin Suns
  • Servant of Cthulhu
  • Avant Garde
  • a bundle for the operator Mace
  • Trophy Skills

We cannot say exactly when these will be released. Only the “Anime Express” bundle is coming with the next update, scheduled for May 5th, and brings with it a pink paint job for the Warzone truck:

Mastery Calling Cards

As a new feature, the mastery calling cards for weapons in Modern Warfare have been promised since January 2020. These show your opponent which weapon you are particularly skilled with.

The cards used to be badges made of gold or other precious metals with skulls and the corresponding weapon prominently in the title and had several levels at times. We do not yet know what requirements you must fulfill to unlock them.

In January, it was said that the calling cards were already in the works and should come “soon”. It is quite possible that they will appear in the next few weeks.

New (Temporary) Game Modes

In a “Reloaded Roadmap” for season 3, shown with the update on April 29, the developers mention several game modes that will come to the multiplayer of Modern Warfare in the future. They displayed the roadmap in a tweet:

Included are Demolition and the Blueprint Gun Game, both of which have already been confirmed in a blog post for the update on May 5th/6th.

The roadmap, however, also shows the mode “Gunfight – Knives Only”. According to the information, this mode should also come with the patch, but is not mentioned. The name of the mode already reveals what it will be about, but we do not have more specific information yet.

Nerf for the Annoying Akimbo Meta

For some time now, it has been possible to use the “Akimbo” perk to carry two weapons simultaneously, one in each hand. However, you must first complete a special challenge to unlock this extra.

Akimbo is currently considered particularly strong and is preferred by many players in Warzone – so much so that the corresponding weapons have now risen to the meta. Especially the .357 Magnum is popular here because it becomes a shotgun with the “Snake Shot” attachment.

The .357 as Akimbo is causing problems at the moment.

This is precisely the problem that Infinity Ward wants to address. The “Akimbo Snake Shots” are ruining the fun for many players and will be nerfed soon, as Co-Design Director Joe Cecot already promised on Twitter. The change is expected to be implemented in an upcoming small update.

nerf for the RPGs

Almost as popular as the “Akimbo Snake Shots” are the rocket launchers, or RPGs, in Warzone. They are known for their precision and lethality at almost any distance.

Their main advantage is that they count as a secondary weapon and therefore do not require an “Overkill” perk to carry in the loadout. This makes them popular options.

At the same time, it is frustrating to die to them because, from the perspective of many fans, they require “little skill” and are therefore seen as a problem.

Cecot also announced an adjustment for the rocket launchers, which will, however, only come in the next major update. When exactly that will be, we cannot say yet.

However, the new contents are not the only thing Infinity Ward is currently working on. Many players are frustrated that the updates and patches sometimes create new or even worse problems than they solve. A major issue at the moment is issues with the lobby and the battle pass, for which you can also look forward to a solution soon.
