7 months without new content: Are you still playing WoW?

The content drought in World of Warcraft begins. But how do you deal with it? Do you continue to play WoW? Or do you take a break for other games?

Although the current raid Ny’alotha, the Waking City is not yet fully playable in the LFR, World of Warcraft is facing a massive content drought in the coming months. Since there will be no patch 8.3.5, players have to make do with what WoW has to offer until the release of the next expansion Shadowlands. However, Shadowlands is still a long way off and is unlikely to be released before October 2020, possibly even later.

So how do you, as a WoW player, deal with the upcoming content drought? Do you remain loyal to WoW even through the drought months? Or do you let your subscription expire and turn to other content?

At least 7 months without new content – What to do?

Even in the most optimistic case, it will take about 7 more months until the pre-patch of Shadowlands is released and game mechanics and content are revised. However, there are many ways to deal with this content drought. Some of these would be:

Continue playing the current content: Without “impending” new content, you can now perfect your character. The limit is clear, and the long drought period ensures that players have enough time to perfect their character.

Playing Twinks: Once the main character is equipped and basically “perfect,” Twinks are played, leveled, and equipped. This way, they are ready for the launch of Shadowlands, and you can switch to any class and make it your new main character at the start of the new expansion. The Demon Hunter is a good choice.

Catch up on old content: When new content is absent, you automatically have more time to engage with the old content. There are plenty of achievements or transmog sets to collect, and you might be missing one or another pet in your collection. The “quiet phase” in WoW is perfect for this.

Playing WoW Classic: Your WoW subscription not only pays for the current game, but also grants access to WoW Classic. There will still be “new” content appearing in the coming weeks – the perfect alternative until Shadowlands?

Just play something different: WoW likes to consume all of your free time, leaving little time for other games. Now would be a perfect time to work through the “pile of shame” in your Steam library or just try out another game.
