What kind of game is Valheim? You play as a Viking who arrives in the afterlife Valheim after your death. There, you were dropped off by a Valkyrie and are to fight the enemies of the Allfather Odin – and prove that you are worthy warriors.
As in a typical survival game, you start without equipment and naked. You need to gather stones and sticks for basic tools, survive on berries and gradually become stronger. By defeating bosses, you can collect better materials and progress in the game. You follow a real, small story.
How does base building work? You gather wood from surrounding trees and use it to create your home and farm. Everything from small huts to a farm with fields to actual villages with longhouses is possible.
Choose your building site wisely to have easy access to the various biomes with their unique materials. However, it is important to pay attention to stability, otherwise, your buildings may collapse. With tricks, you can even build real living caves.
Is the base important for gameplay? Yes, you can rest in your base and need a place to craft better equipment. At various workbenches, which can enhance each other, you can build tools, weapons, and armor.
There is also the possibility to build portals, which you ideally protect with walls. This allows you to travel quickly through the world.
