Phantasy Star Online 2 – Release of New Genesis

What type of game is it? The online role-playing game Phantasy Star Online 2 was already released in Japan in 2012. In this online RPG, sci-fi elements are mixed with fantasy. In 2020, the game finally made its way to the West.
You explore foreign worlds where you engage in combat against enemies through an active, action-packed combat system. However, you shouldn’t expect a “real” MMORPG experience, but rather a co-op RPG where you enter game areas together with friends from hubs, similar to Guild Wars 1.
However, this is set to change with the new New Genesis in June.
Here are the highlights of PSO 2: New Genesis
With New Genesis, a sort of sequel set in the same world and even within the same client is being created. Additionally, there are updates for the old PSO 2 and numerous connections between the games:
- The game gets a new engine, also for the original version of PSO 2
- PSO 2 is becoming more of an MMORPG, as there will be open areas where you will encounter other players
- The class system will be revamped, offering initially only 6 classes
- New skills will be introduced
- The story takes place 1,000 years in the future
- Exploration will be more emphasized
Additionally, you should be able to transfer your old characters and numerous cosmetic contents between PSO 2 and New Genesis. However, materials and money will be exclusively bound to each respective game.
Here’s why you should play PSO 2: New Genesis in June
On June 9, PSO 2: New Genesis will be released about one year after its announcement. The new MMORPG comes for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
As soon as PSO 2 New Genesis is available, it makes sense to start exploring a new world with all the other players. However, you can theoretically use the time until the release to play Phantasy Star Online 2 and unlock some cosmetic contents.
