Genre: Shooter | Developer: 1047 Games | Platform: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S | Release Date: August 2021 | Model: Free-to-Play
What kind of game is this? Splitgate is an old-school shooter in the vein of Unreal Tournament. You fight in various arenas against other players and have access to a wide variety of firearms. Both the visuals and the speed are reminiscent of the Halo series.
The special twist, however, is the portals that you can use to move to different locations on the map. You can also shoot through them to eliminate enemies.
These are the highlights of Splitgate
Splitgate is a classic shooter, but that’s why it’s so well received. On Steam, there are already over 20,000 reviews from the beta phase, and 87% of them are positive. Highlights of the game include:
- The aforementioned portals that give the game a distinct dynamic
- Over 20 different arenas where you can fight
- 11 different weapons, some of which are futuristic and some realistic
- Fast-paced rounds that are fun due to their simplicity
Why you should play Splitgate in August
The release of Splitgate was originally scheduled for July. However, during the beta, up to 65,536 players were online simultaneously. This number is, however, the maximum that Splitgate’s servers can currently handle. The shooter was so well received that the release had to be postponed.
The new release date should still be in August, but there is no concrete date available yet.
Splitgate targets fans of old-school shooters who enjoy short, action-packed rounds in arenas. If, however, you’re looking for large-scale battles on big maps, you’ll surely find something in this list:
