What is Old School RuneScape? The MMORPG is one of the oldest and most well-known games in the genre. It takes place in a medieval world and is operated with a point-and-click mechanic.
After the original RuneScape has been continuously developed since its release in 2001, the developers launched the “Old School” version in 2013. It can even be played on iOS.
Old School RuneScape is based on the aesthetics and gameplay of 2001. This version has had more players to this day than the modern variant and had more players in November 2020 than ever before.
How Old School RuneScape plays: RuneScape has a unique skill mechanic that allows you to perform various interactions. The key is that skills only level up when you use them. Many players set goals to level certain skills.
To that end, RuneScape offers special modes like “Ironman” or “Deadman.” In these modes, players are not allowed to trade with others and can only use items they find themselves. They have to do everything on their own. In some variants, the character is even deleted after a death.
Despite its age and graphics, RuneScape still attracts tens of thousands of players. It belongs to the old MMORPGs that are still being played.
Albion Online

What is Albion Online? Albion Online is a sandbox MMORPG in which you explore a fantasy world inspired by the famous Arthur saga.
The developers are still providing updates for Albion Online. There is already a plan for 2021 to bring a feature that fans have been wanting for years.
In 2021, an average of over 7,000 players were simultaneously playing on Steam (via steamcharts) and Albion Online can be easily played without spending a cent.
How Albion Online plays: As a sandbox title, it is up to the players what they want to make of the game and how they want to play it. The entire economy is player-driven, items are crafted and sold by them.
Albion also offers a huge world that players can explore. Various biomes, such as highlands or swamps, and over 800 areas invite discovery of the surroundings.
While the game is supported by its large community, those who prefer to retreat can simply acquire and develop their own plot of land. Additionally, you get a house in Albion Online that includes a private island.
EVE Online

What is EVE Online? EVE Online is a space sandbox game where anyone can do basically what they want. Almost everything that happens is determined by players.
The vast world invites exploration and research. However, the social aspect also plays a major role. Large alliances dominate various sectors of the universe.
This often leads to large wars, for which EVE Online is known. Just in January 2021, there was such a massive battle that even the servers broke down.
How EVE Online plays: At the start, you only have a small spaceship with which you can work as a trader (or similar). The more diligent you are, the bigger your ships become. If you join larger groups, even massively big cruisers can be waiting in the garage – to eventually participate in faction wars.
In broad terms, EVE Online is a space capitalism simulation. What happens, how the market looks, etc. is determined by the players. It is relatively easy to learn and becomes steadily more complex as the game progresses.
Many ships have a corresponding value in real money. In space battles, it then happens more frequently that hundreds of thousands of euros are literally destroyed.
