Tetris 99
Genre: Puzzle Game | Price: €0, but online requirement | Players: up to 99
This is Tetris 99: Tetris itself doesn’t need an introduction. Probably everyone knows the game in which you try to position blocks as cleverly as possible and prevent a wall from reaching the top of the screen.
Tetris 99 changes the formula in that you compete against multiple players. The last player standing wins – it’s basically Battle Royale. Basically, the download of Tetris 99 is free, but you need a paid Nintendo Online subscription to play the game.
This is how to play together: The typical game sends you into matches against each other rather than together. However, local co-op against AI is also possible – thus providing some exciting puzzle matches against the computer.
Brawlhalla
Genre: Brawler/Beat ’em up | Price: Free2Play | Players: 1-8
This is Brawlhalla: If Nintendos flagship brawler “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” is too expensive for you, then Brawlhalla is exactly the right address. Like in the obvious model, you fight on different stages.
While the typical Nintendo character is missing, Brawlhalla also has some interesting characters from crossovers. For example, characters from the Rayman series, Tomb Raider, Hellboy, or even WWE have made their appearance in Brawlhalla.
This is how to play together: Brawlhalla can be played in local multiplayer as well as online in cross-platform play with multiple players. It is among the currently best free games on PS4. Of course, you can test who the better brawler is against each other – or try cooperatively as a team.
Ultimate Chicken Horse
Genre: Platformer/Party | Price: €14.99 | Players: 1-4
This is Ultimate Chicken Horse: The Switch has a lot of crazy games to offer for multiplayer evenings, as shown by Guacamelee and Enter the Gungeon. Ultimate Chicken Horse joins this collection – and brings a lot of fun.
You must guide various animals through obstacle courses full of dangerous traps that you or the community have built. The game combines platforming with creating your own platformer levels – quite versatile. You can create a lot of mischief in the game and design increasingly crazy courses. All of this in – how could it be otherwise – a rather silly appearance.
This is how you play together: Don’t let the cartoonish premise scare you, as the game can get quite challenging depending on how hard you make the courses. Both online and offline, you will then try to get through the courses together, with the one remaining at the end winning. A little together, a little against each other: this game offers both.
Super Kirby Clash
Genre: Action | Price: Free2Play | Players: 1-4
This is Super Kirby Clash: With Kirby, one of the classic Nintendo series also made it onto this list. However, this is not a typical Kirby title, but rather a free-to-play game that focuses on a combat system with stylish visuals.
Basically, you challenge multiple bosses and try to defeat them using various abilities. There are four “roles”: Hero Sword, Heavy Hammer, Wonder Doctor, and Magic Beam. You use them to complete missions and save the Dream Kingdom. The download of the game is free, but there are plenty of opportunities in the game where you can spend premium currency.
This is how you play together: The entire adventure is generally designed for one to four players. So you can just gather in front of a console and share the roles among yourselves. “Super Kirby Clash” won’t keep you busy for overly long hours, but for a few rounds in between, the download is worth it.
