What is the anime about? The humanity is threatened by gigantic titans and therefore surrounds itself with meter-high walls meant to protect against the enemies. However, a colossal titan manages to breach the wall, resulting in many humans being devoured by titans.
Also, Eren Jaeger loses his mother during the incident. He joins the reconnaissance squad, which is tasked with learning more about the titans. His childhood friends Mikasa Ackermann and Armin Arlert help him with this.
Why should the hero have been dead? Attack on Titan runs for almost 100 episodes, but actually, Eren would have been dead already during the second encounter with a titan. After the colossal titan spared him, he and his crew encountered numerous smaller titans. Alongside some of his friends, Eren is also swallowed by a titan.
Instead of pursuing a career in the reconnaissance squad, Eren would actually have been dead already in episode 5. However, he is lucky that he is one of the nine titan shifters and can save himself from the inevitable death in the belly of a titan.
All these animes would probably have ended after the first episodes. But then we wouldn’t have experienced the plot twists that occur during the series.
