What is the anime about? Yukiteru Amano uses his mobile phone as a diary, recording what he experiences throughout the day. At home, he dreams himself into the world of his imaginary friend, Deus Ex Machina. He is the god of space and time, but one day calls for a game of life and death.
10 participants, each with a special diary, compete in this competition. The winner will be the successor of Deus Ex Machina. Here, Yukiteru meets his classmate Yuno Gasai, who turns out to be a psychopathic stalker.
Why should the hero have been dead? Yukiteru is an ordinary student who would have had no chance of winning against the other participants on his own. His luck is that he has a partner by his side who knows the game already.
The two diaries complement each other perfectly, so Yuki and Yuno always know what is happening around them. Furthermore, Yuno is a cold-blooded killer who does not hesitate to kill her opponents – unlike Yuki, who spends most of the time being whiny. He should have already died in episode 2 when he encountered the terrorist Minene Uryu.
