What is the anime about? Yuuji Itadori is an ordinary student with a penchant for occult phenomena. One day, he actually comes across a cursed object in the form of a finger. When his school is attacked by a curse, he swallows this finger and thereby gains the powers of the legendary King of Curses, Sukuna Ryoumen.
He trains his newly discovered powers at the Jujutsu Academy, with the goal of exterminating the curses. He has no choice, as he is considered a threat himself because he carries Sukuna within him.
Why should the hero have been dead? Yuuji Itadori should actually not have been able to stand up to the curse. He would have been eaten in battle, even though he possesses superhuman athletic abilities. Only through Sukuna’s powers was he able to escape certain death.
Thus, Jujutsu Kaisen would have ended after the first episode as well. However, the Jujutsu Academy has many other promising fighters who we could also imagine as the protagonists of the series.
