A clip from the new FIFA 22 is currently making the rounds: Thanks to a celebration animation, the 60-year-old football coach Steve Bruce is becoming an absolute top sprinter.
What’s going on? A clip has been shared in the FIFA community showing the celebrating team of Newcastle United. The team has apparently just won an important penalty shootout – and is celebrating it accordingly. Such excessive celebration animations were already one of the NextGen features in FIFA 21 and are also expected to create goosebumps moments in FIFA 22.
However, one person stands out in the clip: Newcastle’s coach Steve Bruce, who is already 60 years old in real life.
But age doesn’t hold the former center-back back at all in the FIFA clip, as he euphorically sprints across the field, leaving his substitute players behind. You can see what that looks like here in the post from the FIFA subreddit:
Community celebrates the clip – and even EA gets in on it
Here’s the reaction: Despite all his fitness and enthusiasm, it’s quite unlikely that the real Steve Bruce would leave his physically fit professional athletes behind – celebration or not. These celebration animations can appear for any team in the game. The fact that the avatar of the 60-year-old coach was used at this specific moment seems rather curious.
The amusing glitch is actually well-received in the community
- “This is one of the best FIFA clips I have ever seen.”
- “I love the war cry he makes when he speeds up.”
- “I would rather play him than Giroud” – Giroud is notorious for his slow stats in FIFA.
That’s how the feedback sounds in the FIFA subreddit (via reddit), on Twitter, and more.
This is what EA says: Apparently, EA also took notice of the clip. They seem to view the whole thing humorously. Because on Instagram, they directly released a new FUT card for the sprinting manager:

Clearly, this clip seems to be justified given these values! However, the manager probably won’t make it into the game in this form. He would actually be the fastest card ever – even ahead of Mbappé, Davies, or Adama Traoré.
