Gold is one of the most important, yet rarest resources in WoW Classic. We will show you how to quickly and easily get more gold to spend.
Why is gold important? You need gold in WoW Classic for various things, such as:
- Mounts and riding skills
- Skills from trainers
- Recipes and resources for professions
- New gear or goods from the auction house
- Respec talent points
You will need a lot of gold during leveling, and you will probably find yourself with empty bags multiple times. We have already revealed how to reach level 60 faster in our level guide. However, if you want to make gold, we have 5 tips for you here.
Tip 1: Use these addons
Using addons is, of course, optional, but they can greatly help with gold farming. The addons listed here make daily activities easier, save time, or are really good sources of income. By the way, it’s worth mentioning the Twitch app, with which you can easily manage and update your addons for WoW.
GatherMate2: For gathering professions, GatherMate2 is almost essential. The addon registers every time you pick an herb or mine ore. It then marks the position on the map. Gradually, you fill your world map with the various spawn points of resources and can quickly plan a route to check all possible spawns in the future.

Vendor Price: Small but fine, this addon tells you what an item would be worth if you sold it to a vendor, already in your inventory. Generally, you should pick up and sell everything. However, if bag space is tight, Vendor Price helps and brings joy when you loot a gray item that is worth a nice chunk of gold.

TradeSkillMaster: This addon, commonly referred to as “TSM”, is extremely powerful. It is especially useful for players who like to spend a lot of time in the auction house. Its core functions already include a scan of the auction house and easy purchasing of many single auctions.
TSM is incredibly powerful and can automatically buy items that are underpriced in the auction house. The functions of the addon are extensive, and it’s worth experimenting with.

Bagnon: Not mandatory, but very helpful for organization. Bagnon replaces the bag interface and combines your 5 bag slots into one large bag. This way, you can organize your inventory much more clearly and see everything at a glance. Once you get used to it, you have a much better inventory management.
Tip 2: Gather diligently while leveling
What you should pay attention to: This tip may sound obvious, but while leveling, your bags will often be overloaded. Your first character will likely have very limited bag space available.
Therefore, it is even more important to take valuable items with you while on the go. An addon such as Vendor Price, which shows you how many silver pieces each item is worth, can help with that.
What should I gather? To avoid flooding your bags with junk or being unable to take quest items, here are some basic rules for deciding what should end up in your bag:
- Weapons and armor, even gray ones, usually yield more silver than a full stack of “trash loot”.
- Take green gear with you and sell it in the auction house. If it’s not worth it there, vendors will still pay you some silver for it.
- Especially collect crafting materials like cloth or cooking supplies. These sell quickly in the auction house at a good price.
In general, you should always try to sell items for a good price in the auction house. It may occasionally take longer to compare prices and sell things, but it is worth it in the long run.
Tip 3: Choose the right professions
Why should I choose professions? Unlike leveling quickly, it is important for making gold that you take and level professions. As you journey to level 60, you should always ensure that you are leveling your professions. There are several reasons for this:
Unlike in retail, you need a specific skill level to gather higher plants or ores later on.
During your travels, it is easier to farm items “on the side” than to have to go back later and do it deliberately.
Additional loot always provides an extra amount of gold – or supplies your crafters who can possibly make even more gold with it.
Which professions should I choose? The most useful, especially during the leveling phase, are the classic gathering professions. They have the advantage that you don’t need other professions for them to work – but the downside is that you can only market raw materials. The professions include:
- Herbalism – for plants needed by alchemists for potions.
- Mining – for ores processed by blacksmiths and engineers.
- Leatherworking – for leather needed by leatherworkers.
Mining and herbalism are slightly more lucrative; however, you will have to compete with other players for the herbs and ores. Skinning, on the other hand, can be done without competition because you simply skin the hides of wild animals you kill.
Tip 4: Use multiple characters for banking and disenchanting
Why do I need multiple characters? A second character is useful for several reasons, as we explained in our 5 tips before starting:
- You have access to another bank slot.
- You can take advantage of the rest bonuses if you alternate between both characters.
- One character can stay in the capital to conduct business.
Especially the larger storage space and quick access to the auction house are very useful for accumulating gold and conducting business. This saves you time that you can use for farming and leveling.
How to use the characters effectively: If you want to get the most out of the second character, make him an enchanter and give him a profession that complements your gathering professions on the other character. This gives you several advantages:
- Green items can be disenchanted immediately, allowing you to create and sell more valuable items like wands
- Enchanting becomes really worthwhile at higher levels
- The second profession can create items from the resources of the first character that are worth more than the raw materials themselves
- You can possibly buy green items from the auction house that are cheaper than their equivalent in disenchantment dust or essences
Tip 5: Use dungeons effectively
Why should I go through dungeons? In dungeons, you not only gain a lot of experience but also unique loot. This loot is sometimes not soulbound and can be sold, such as recipes or rare items.
With such items, you can make even more gold, as they can often only be found in the corresponding dungeons and are therefore much desired by other players.
In addition, some crafting materials, such as dark iron, drop only in certain dungeons. With these, you can make even more profit from the dungeon run.
Furthermore, you only have to compete for herbs in instances with a maximum of four other players, not with everyone.
How to get the most out of dungeons: The most important thing is to plan which dungeons you want to farm, especially for their loot or items. We give you some tips for popular locations:

Special tip: Rogues or druids (in cat form) can sometimes farm these resources alone by sneaking through the instance in stealth and scooping up the loot.
Tip 6: Don’t waste a second
How to use time effectively: The last tip is also quite obvious but often overlooked. You will have to wait several times, for example, on friends or other matters. Use this time to earn some silver:
- Go fishing: Many fish are worth quite a bit of gold and silver
- Use the time to kill and skin wild animals – this way you get meat and leather
- Search the auction house for bargains
