What kind of event is this? Right now, the event “Secrets of the Jungle” is taking place in Pokémon GO this event is held to celebrate the release of the new Pokémon movie of the same name on Netflix. According to Niantic, the monsters you can currently catch in the game are the Pokémon related to the movie (via pokemongolive.com).
Until October 10, 2021, at 8:00 PM local time, you have the opportunity to take advantage of all the benefits of the Jungle Event. After that, it will be over again.
These 6 things you should do for the Jungle Event
During the Jungle Event, you can expect numerous Pokémon and bonuses again. Below we have compiled 6 tips on what things you should take advantage of during the event:
Start the Special Research “Searching for Zarude”
In line with the Jungle Event, there is a new special research. It is called “Searching for Zarude” and deals with the Dark-type Pokémon Zarude, which is available as a reward. Zarude is a mysterious monster of the Dark and Grass types. It is available in Pokémon GO for the first time.
To find and solve the research, you just need to click on the binoculars in your map view of the game. Under the “Special” overview, it is then listed along with all other special researches. What tasks and rewards await you in the “Searching for Zarude” we have summarized here for you.
Attention: However, the research is time-limited. If you want to have the new monster, you should start solving the tasks during the event. Once that happens, you will still have the opportunity to finish this special research afterwards.
Complete the quests with Geronimatz
In addition to a new special research, there are also 6 new field research tasks that you can get at the PokéStops. Two of these are particularly worthwhile, as you will receive the Normal- and Flying-type Pokémon Geronimatz as a reward.
This monster does not spawn in the wild and can only be obtained by hatching 10 km eggs or via the PvP reward starting from rank 16. It is therefore a bit rarer to find in the game. Since you can meet Geronimatz in its shiny form with some luck, these quests are really worthwhile.
Also remember that you can evolve Geronimatz into Washakwil. So if you don’t have a shiny specimen in your Pokédex yet, you should not miss this chance. You can recognize shiny Geronimatz by its brown body. In contrast, Washakwil has blue wings in its shiny form.
Participate in Raids
Not only in the wild and in the rewards can you encounter various Pokémon during the Jungle Event. You will also find new raid bosses in the raids at the moment. Here, Genesect should be particularly interesting for you.
This mysterious monster can be found for the first time in its Aqua Module form in level 5 raids. The Bug and Steel-type Pokémon can impress with particularly strong attack values, making it very suitable for raids. Thus, it belongs to the best Bug attackers in Pokémon GO.
This is definitely a reason to secure a strong specimen. Due to the different forms Genesect has, there is also a new entry in the Pokédex for Aqua Module. Shiny hunters, however, will not benefit from this, as a shiny version of this specimen is currently not available in the game.

Defeat Jessie and James
After Jessie and James have not been found in the game for a longer time, they are now back for the Jungle Event. You can find them as usual in a Meowth balloon. You should definitely take advantage of this, as the two will not be around for long. You only have until October 15 at 10:00 AM local time to do so.
But why is it worth fighting against the two? Since you are facing two Team GO Rocket grunts with Jessie and James, this is also counted as such in the game. You can use this, for example, directly for completing your Geronimatz quest.
In addition, you can also collect your parts for the Rocket Radar faster this way. You need this to locate the Rocket bosses. Of course, after the two battles, you can also catch a Shadow Pokémon each time, and with a bit of luck, even one as a shiny. The two fight with the following teams:

Catching Pokémon
In line with the Jungle Event, you will encounter numerous Pokémon in the wild. And here you can also spot a few specimens that you should secure.
Larvitar: The Rock and Ground-type Pokémon can evolve into Despotar, which is among the best Rock attackers. So this is your chance to snag a strong Larvitar. With some luck, you might even encounter a shiny.
Explorer Pikachu: Another interesting monster is the Explorer Pikachu. The Electric-type Pokémon regularly dresses in various costumes, which also have their own entries in the Pokédex. Even though Pikachu in its explorer outfit is primarily intended for collecting, you should definitely secure a specimen for your Pokédex.
When it will be found in this disguise in the game again is not known. Of course, you can also catch this monster as a shiny with a bit of luck.
Pokémon through Photobombs: Also during the Jungle Event, there will be some surprises when taking photos. If you take a snapshot of a Pokémon, such as your buddy, it may happen that this picture gets crashed by Jessie and James.
This can happen up to 5 times a day. As a reward, you then have the opportunity to catch a Meowth or Woingenau. Both are also available in their shiny forms in the game. However, keep in mind that you must first catch your monster from the snapshot before you can get another one. However, there is no guarantee of a catch, so it can also flee.
More Shinies: In addition to Larvitar and Pikachu, there are other wild Pokémon that you can encounter in their shiny form. So if you haven’t caught one or another of the following monsters as shiny yet, then this is your opportunity to catch them:
- Caterpie
- Myrapla
- Diglett
- Dusselgurr
- Kiesling
- Lithomith
Trade Pokémon
Since there are again some wild monsters to catch during the Jungle Event, trading with friends is a good idea. Those who want as many lucky Pokémon for their Pokédex as possible may have the chance to receive missing specimens through this.
Even though the probability of a lucky trade is only about 5-6%, a trade could still be worthwhile. In total, you can trade up to 100 Pokémon per day in Pokémon GO. So if you’re eager for lucky Pokémon and need some from the current spawns, you should give it a try.
