The MMO Marvel’s Avengers launches on September 4th on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Before you dive into the world of superheroes, we from MeinMMO will show you here 6 important bits of info about the heroes, the story, and other content.
With Marvel’s Avengers, an MMO awaits you that relies on various mechanics and offers much to explore. So you don’t go down the wrong path right from the start, we provide you here some tips to make your entry easier.
The information is based on the beta testing phase and the initial experiences of players who are already playing Marvel’s Avengers in early access.
You fight against an evil organization that hunts superheroes
This is the story: The world of the Avengers is in a difficult time. The organization A.I.M. is in power and hunts the last superheroes. The Avengers are disbanded. Various people have been “infected,” so they also have superpowers. These are also pursued by A.I.M. and used for their secret experiments.
You will play as Kamala Khan, a young fangirl of the Avengers who has superpowers herself. She reunites the Avengers so they can win the fight against A.I.M.
As the story progresses, more superheroes from the Marvel universe will join, and you will have to undertake different missions against A.I.M.
We recommend: You don’t have to start with the campaign in Marvel’s Avengers, but can also start directly with the multiplayer. However, if you do that, you’ll be spoiled for the story.
We recommend you to start with the campaign first. Once you’ve completed the story, you can directly dive into the multiplayer. You’ll have already mastered the game’s mechanics and can jump straight into the missions.
You should increase hero levels and power levels
This is the hero level: Each hero has its own level that you can increase through XP. You can earn this XP for almost all actions in Marvel’s Avengers.
By leveling up your hero, you unlock skills and upgrades that help you in battle. Your hero also becomes stronger in general and can take more damage, for instance.
The skills are the most important aspect of hero leveling. You can use them to expand, specialize, and enhance your hero’s skill tree, and after 50 levels, you’ve unlocked everything.
This is how you level the hero level best: Complete missions in the HARM room. Here you initiate a simulation, and on one hand, you can practice with various heroes and earn a nice amount of experience points. Otherwise, missions of the type “Drop Zone” are a good choice. These are short missions that quickly reward you with XP and equipment for completing a task.
You can earn especially a lot of XP later when you unlock the Hives.
In general, you can level up your hero level almost anywhere, and if you first play the campaign, you’ll already gather a few levels here.
This is the power level: The true strength of a hero is reflected in your power level. This, in turn, is determined by your equipment. You loot equipment with ever-increasing power levels, making you stronger all the time. The maximum at release is 150.
It is of no use to have a high hero level if you don’t have a high power level. You might surprise higher-tier enemies with a special move, but they are not impressed due to your low power level and take little damage.
This is how you level up the power level best: If you really want to progress quickly, play on higher difficulty levels. Here you get better loot and your power level increases faster, but the enemies will put you under considerable pressure.
You can also improve your equipment from time to time. Except for equipment of the “Common” level, you can increase the power levels of the pieces with some resources. This is expensive, but it gives you a boost and thus better equipment because the campaign and some of the other missions adapt the power level to your heroes.
There are 6 heroes who are completely different
These are the heroes: At the start of Marvel’s Avengers, 6 heroes are waiting for you to play. These include:
- Thor
- Black Widow
- Iron Man
- Hulk
- Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan)
- Captain America
This is what makes the heroes special: Each hero plays completely differently and has abilities you know from the Marvel movies or comics.
The Hulk, for instance, uses his enormous strength to smash everything, Iron Man can fly, and Captain America is known for his moves with the shield.
Can I freely choose between the heroes: In the campaign, you usually play a designated hero relevant to the mission. In multiplayer, however, you can choose freely. The hero that you like best can then be deployed. However, two of the same heroes cannot participate in one mission.
Will there be more heroes? At launch, there are only 6 playable heroes. Marvel’s Avengers is a game-as-a-service and promises more heroes over time.
In the Marvel universe, you will also encounter more individuals with superpowers. However, you cannot currently play these.
The skills define your heroes
This is how the skills work: The skill system in Marvel’s Avengers is rather complex. We have already provided you with a detailed article that offers in-depth insights. Here we summarize the key points for you.
- Each hero has its own skill tree that you level up individually and unlock abilities with
- The abilities are categorized into 3 types. Primary, Specialization, and Mastery are the ranks you can select as your hero level increases
- Through specializations and masteries, you define what your hero is particularly good at
- The skills are divided into 3 categories
- Support Skill
- Attack Skill
- Ultimate Attack
Especially the ultimate attack is exciting, as it serves a bit as the hallmark of your hero. We will embed a video here where you can see the attacks of some heroes:
The playtime depends on you
How long can you play Marvel’s Avengers? The main campaign is supposed to last between 10 and 15 hours. However, this depends significantly on your play style.
In almost every mission, there are small side quests you can complete, but aren’t required to. This means you can complete missions in minutes or take an hour in a mission.
Additionally, there’s the multiplayer and the skill trees of the different heroes that you can level up all together. Various platforms estimate the game time, including multiplayer, to be about 30 hours. However, this varies from player to player. If you want to level your heroes to the maximum, you will have to invest more time.
Here’s how to extend the playtime: With the release of Marvel’s Avengers, the content is far from over. The developers want to continuously introduce more innovations.
With the release of a new hero alone, the time you can invest will grow. There will then be a new skill tree to upgrade. Additionally, things like raids are planned. Here, you can again enjoy new gameplay experiences.
Marvel’s Avengers gives you a lot of real money currency for playtime
This is the state of microtransactions: The MMO has an in-game shop that provides purely cosmetic items. You can buy skins for your heroes, but you won’t find loot boxes here. You can directly see what you are spending your money on.
Payments are made in credits, which you can either buy for real money or find in the respective hero battle passes – the so-called hero challenge cards.
For each hero challenge card, you can earn 1,200 credits. The first 6 cards currently available are free. For each card, you can earn 1,200 credits. Therefore, there are 7,200 credits you can obtain without real money; however, you must invest a considerable amount of playtime in the heroes.
When more heroes come into play, they will also receive a hero challenge card. However, this will then cost 1,000 credits. You will also earn an additional 1,200 credits per card as you level it.
In relation to this generosity and the “gifted” 7,200 credits, the real money prices of the credits seem somewhat high. The smallest package costs €4.99 and provides you with 500 credits. The “good” legendary outfits are priced at 1,400 credits, or nearly €14.
We recommend: You should always keep 1,000 credits. When a new hero challenge card comes out, you can buy it directly without real money. You can then earn 1,200 credits from it, which allows you to purchase the next card.
