Currently, the Destiny 2 Solstice of Heroes 2020 is underway. However, many Guardians are disappointed, as numerous problems are affecting players’ moods. Here are 6 things everyone should know about the event and pay attention to.
This is how Destiny 2 celebrates the end of Year 3: Currently, the traditional late-summer event Solstice of Heroes is happening in Destiny 2 as part of Season 11. With the Solstice, Bungie celebrates the achievements and heroics of Guardians over the almost completed Destiny year and lets the third year of the game wind down with this celebration. Because on November 10, the new fall expansion Beyond Light and Season 12 will usher in Year 4.
What should you know beforehand? However, not everything is going smoothly at the event, and not everyone is thrilled. Bugs, issues, opaque features, and sometimes disappointing rewards are putting a damper on the fun for some players.
That’s why we’ll show you 6 things to pay attention to in order to minimize potential frustration and disappointment as much as possible.
Incorrect description for the Warlock challenge
According to the challenge description, Warlocks must achieve 150 kills with the Arc Super for the class item of the majestic set – specifically against enemy Guardians.
However, the description is not correct – just like last year. Many are particularly annoyed about the copy/paste issue, as the mistake was not fixed but rather carried over from last year – even though it was loudly pointed out back then.
To successfully complete this task, you can simply kill any enemies with the Arc Super – they don’t necessarily have to be other Guardians.
Problems in Gambit Prime
There’s also an issue here that is already known from last year. While Gambit Prime counts as a Gambit completion for many challenges, you cannot spawn Elemental Orbs there for some reason.
For any challenges related to Orbs in Gambit, you cannot make progress there. That seems to only be possible in standard Gambit mode.
No masterwork armor as a reward anymore
If you were expecting to receive a complete masterwork armor set at the end of the long grind as you did last year, you might have gotten your hopes up too soon.
Because this year there were some changes to the event, and the last step now grants you a white glow effect for the armor – but no masterwork variant anymore. And not everyone is pleased with that.
After criticism arose, Bungie also addressed this topic in the current TWaB and explained: Players can obtain armor with high values and a power cap of 1,360 through the random rolls from the event packages. This will remain relevant long after the Solstice 2020, and you can then also upgrade it to masterwork after the event.
Uncertainties with random drops of Solstice armor pieces
Numerous players and even some Destiny experts like FalloutPlays initially wondered why they weren’t receiving random rolls from the Solstice packages. And that, even though Bungie communicated this and they had already unlocked the majestic (the last) set.
After receiving the majestic set, you must talk to Eva Levante in the Tower again. She will then hand you 30 keys to complete the quest, and only then do the drops for randomly rolled Solstice armor pieces start.
Undocumented feature that is also faulty
After the first Solstice armor sets were upgraded, many players noticed that they could apparently gain faster progress with their second and third characters. However, this did not work for everyone.
The community wondered whether this was a bug or possibly an undocumented feature to ease the grind with more characters. And indeed – Bungie later commented and announced that it was a “Quality of life” improvement introduced at this event in 2020.
If used correctly, the second character makes double progress with the corresponding event tasks, while the third character can achieve triple progress – provided one of your Guardians has already earned the majestic set. You can find out more here: Bungie clarifies whether faster event progress is a bug or a feature
But even that is more complex than one initially thought after the explanation. The best strategy seems to be as follows:
- Reach majestic status with the first character
- Now play with your second character and the now active double progress until majestic
- Now proceed to make your first character majestic
- Now your second character plays up to majestic with double progress
- Now grab your third character and play up to the majestic set with triple progress
However, alongside the uncertainties, there were irregularities and issues. For instance, if you initially completed the majestic armor with the Titan, it could happen that the other characters no longer benefited from the progress bonus. However, that seems to have been resolved by now.
Disappointing glow effects
What disappointed many the most about the Solstice 2020 were the glow effects for the new armors – for some players the actual highlight of the summer event.
There was initially a lot of excitement, with some sensing fraud and warning against purchasing the cosmetics. Because the glow effect ornaments for armors, which were presented so pompously by Bungie, looked completely different in reality and were far from being as effectual as in the promotional material.
But apparently, this is also a bug. Many Guardians conducted investigations and discovered that at least the ornament for the Hunter functions as it should.

Bungie is also aware of the issue and the loud criticism. They have already addressed it on Twitter and promise to look into it.
What do you think about the Solstice of Heroes 2020 – are you annoyed by the errors, especially the fact that many were wrongfully carried over from last year? Or are you pleased about the positive changes, like the ability to shorten the grind or the longer relevance of event rewards?
