Anno
“Oops, two hours already gone.” – Every passionate Anno player has probably thought this at least a few times. The games create a real pull, and once you start a game, you often don’t want to stop – and the game knows that.
The most extensive game in the series is Anno 1800. It has the greatest number of expansions of all Anno titles and thus offers the most content. Even in the endgame, you will hardly run out of challenges.

But you can also spend a lot of time in older titles like Anno 1404. The game still looks very good by today’s standards. If you want to focus primarily on city building, you can go for the futuristic Anno 2205, even if that wasn’t as well received by core players of the series.
With Anno 117, a promising trip to the Roman Empire is approaching on November 13, 2025. In September, you could already take a look at the game during a demo, but many fans felt it wasn’t extensive enough: Players demand longer playtime for the demo of Anno 117, but developers explain why that’s not possible
Against the Storm
Against the Storm is another city-building game where you construct cities and fulfill the needs of their inhabitants. Unlike the Anno series, Against the Storm features a dark fantasy setting with different races that possess their own strengths and weaknesses.
Moreover, you play against time here, since the game has changing seasons, and in the “Storm” season, the world throws new threats at you. These also become harder with each passing year.

In Against the Storm, each round plays out differently, which provides immense replay value. Additionally, it brings fresh air into a genre that had long stagnated, as MeinMMO editor Schuhmann noted in an article about the game: I spent 50 hours in 4 days on a game on Steam – No city-building game has hooked me like this in 30 years
