What is it about? Hyakkimaru is a young man who travels through the land. However, his body consists of countless prosthetics because he was sacrificed by his father for a pact with demons as a newborn. In the process, he lost his skin, eyes, ears, and limbs.
Every time Hyakkimaru defeats one of the 12 involved demons, he regains a body part. On his journey, he is accompanied by the little thief Dororo, who ultimately gives the anime its name.
Why does the anime deserve a sequel? While the anime concludes the 60s manga, it still has a lot of potential for further storytelling. Especially the life after the time jump would be interesting to see and how the relationships of the characters and the world have changed in the new era.
On the journey, the audience also learned a lot about the dark world of historical Japan. Hyakkimaru’s journey is over, but the world is full of folklore, in which dozens of dark fates could still be told.
