What is it about? On a fateful day, two young women named Nana meet. However, they couldn’t be more different: Nana Osaki is a cool punk rock singer, while Nana Komatsu is a naive romantic. Osaki wants to break through in Tokyo with her band, while Komatsu wants to find her great love.
Both move into an apartment and develop a deep friendship. The anime follows them through the highs and lows of their platonic relationship. Important themes also include the tough everyday life in the music business and the search for one’s identity.
Why does the anime deserve a sequel? The anime ends at what seems to be the worst possible moment. A time jump into the future is hinted at, where something terrible happens. However, the story could never be continued because the author Ai Yazawa had to take a break due to a serious illness.
Even if the manga is never continued, fans would wish for both Nanas to find their peace. Additionally, the style of the manga is currently very trendy – after all, the fashion comes from designer Vivienne Westwood.
