Outlook on September and October 2020
We have presented you with some highlights from September in this list. However, there are further innovations that will either be released later in the month or without a specific date.
Additionally, we already present some games that will be released early in October.
World of Warcraft – Patch 9.0 and Shadowlands
What kind of game is this? World of Warcraft is one of the largest and best-known MMORPGs in the world. The game was released in 2004 and has received 7 expansions so far, with another on the way, Shadowlands.
The game caters to solo players who want to experience the story, but also to fans of dungeons and raids, which the game is regularly expanded with. PvP is also possible in various modes.
Currently, there are two versions of WoW:
- The current expansion is called Battle for Azeroth and was released in August 2018. This is the “normal” WoW, also known as “Retail WoW”.
- WoW Classic is a re-release of the base game and was released in August 2019.
What will happen in September? The Patch 9.0 is expected to be released in September. This is the pre-patch for Shadowlands, which will include changes such as adjustments to the classes, the level squish, and the new starting area Exile’s Reach.

Genshin Impact – Release on September 28
What kind of game is this? The anime online role-playing game Genshin Impact places you in the role of a wanderer searching for your sister or brother, depending on which gender you choose for the hero.
You explore a large open fantasy world called Teyvat, where you can also meet other players. You experience adventures alone or together and get closer to the mystery of the world recovering from the collapse of a civilization.
Visually, the game resembles Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
What will happen in September? Genshin Impact will be released on September 28 for PC, iOS, Android, and PS4. This is a global launch that also applies to us.
Genshin Impact will be Free2Play and was already playable in a beta version on PS4. There will be crossplay between all platforms, and it is not a classic MMORPG, but rather a coop game for up to 4 players in total.
Star Wars: Squadrons – Release on October 2
What kind of game is this? Star Wars: Squadrons offers you space battles from a first-person perspective, set in the final days of the Galactic Empire. Specifically, the battles take place after the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
In 5v5 multiplayer battles, you and your team will try to complete strategic objectives during a large space battle. The focus lies on multiplayer, but in Squadrons, you will also be able to expect an exciting single-player story.
A highlight is the VR support, so you should feel like you are in a cockpit.
What will happen in October? On October 2, Squadrons will be released for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. If you’re looking for a new Star Wars title, you might find it here.
FIFA 21 – Release on October 9
What kind of game is this? As in every year, the release of a new version of FIFA is also due in 2020. FIFA 21 is under the motto “Feel Next Level” and aims to provide authentic gameplay behavior and more emotions on the pitch through new technologies.
Numerous licenses are available, and some adjustments to familiar game modes are planned, including:
- Improvements in career mode, including a better training menu and interactive match simulations
- More tactical content for Pro Clubs
- Online coop and better gameplay for the Volta mode
- No annoying fitness mechanics in Ultimate Team anymore
What will happen in October? On October 9, the official release of FIFA 21 will take place. However, some players will be able to access the game earlier. For example, EA Access users can play on October 1, while owners of the “Ultimate” and “Champions” editions can play on October 6.
