Since the teaser trailer “Mask of Mayhem” was released, everyone agrees: Borderlands 3 is announced. There are a few details in the trailer that could be important for the game.
What is this teaser about? Gearbox recently released a new video about Borderlands that almost screams for a third installment. Borderlands 3 is not officially confirmed yet.
However, we strongly assume that Borderlands 3 will be announced tonight (March 28) at PAX West. At the end of the article, the teaser video is embedded.
In the trailer, there are a few key scenes that could be important for the third installment:
The new villains?
Who are the two? Right at the beginning of the trailer, two characters are prominently displayed. The two characters are new faces, we have never seen them before. Behind the woman could be a Siren and behind the man a Soldier. These are both classes in Borderlands.
The woman holds the Vault logo, which stands for power in Borderlands. However, it is upside down and glows almost like a halo above the woman. The man crouches at her feet. This could mean that he is subordinate to her and she plays the main role.
The two probably take on the role of antagonists in Borderlands 3. This is supported by the fact that an army of Psychos is kneeling before them.
Standing next to the two are two large Psycho statues like bodyguards. Psychos are bandits who are completely focused on the Vault and like to stab their opponents with a knife while laughing maniacally.
Is Handsome Jack back?
Who is Handsome Jack? The businessman is the enemy in Borderlands 2 and plays an important role in the entire franchise. Handsome Jack calls himself the dictator of Pandora.
It is unlikely that Handsome Jack will return for Borderlands 3. The antagonist dies in the second part of Borderlands and that quite explicitly.
In the trailer, we only see the iconic mask that Handsome Jack once stapled to his face. It is shattered and has large cracks. It looks more like a relic from the past.
Are these the 4 playable characters?
Are these the new Vault Hunters? In Borderlands, there are four playable character classes in the base game that are Vault Hunters, who pursue the secret of the Vaults. The way the four are arranged around the vehicle would be typical for the introduction of classes in Borderlands.
Who is detailed here?
Assassin? Initial opinions suggest that this gentleman might be an assassin. They are good with the sniper and are stealthy.
Beastmaster? According to an alleged leak on 4Chan, there will be a new class called “Beastmaster” that can command animal companions. The robot is suspected to be behind the Beastmaster.
Siren? Sirens are mystical women with incredible powers in Borderlands. They can be recognized by their distinctive tattoos that stretch across their bodies. Experts believe that the lower woman will be the new playable Siren.
Soldier? Lastly, there is the fourth character, who is presumably a soldier. This would be indicated by the military outfit.
Tiny Tina is grown up?
Who is Tiny Tina? The completely crazy child comes from Borderlands 2 and loves explosions. Tiny Tina is one of the absolute fan favorites and often has risqué jokes up her sleeve.
In Borderlands 3, Tiny Tina seems to be grown up. In the lower image, the known NPCs Mordecai, Brick, and a young woman can be recognized. The rabbit on her belt suggests that this is Tiny Tina. Because the rabbit puppet named Fluffybutt is a symbol for her.
Thus, Borderlands 3 would take place a few years after the second part, in which Tiny Tina is only 13 years old.
A new vehicle?
What is that thing? Towards the end of the video, a wheel can be seen with someone sitting in it. It looks like it could be a vehicle. In Borderlands, it is a tradition to drive around in big cars – such a wheel would be a cool alternative!

Sirens with wings?
What roles do Sirens play? In Borderlands, mystical women often play an important key role.
The Siren that is believed to be the villain possesses wings. Later in the trailer, another Siren with wings appears. At least it is assumed that the two are Sirens, which the wings would support.
Almost all Sirens could generate wings in Borderlands at least temporarily. For example, when using a skill. Why these Sirens have the wings so prominently in the trailer remains a mystery but could be significant.
