Identity
Genre: Sandbox MMORPG | Developer: Asylum Entertainment | Platform: PC | Release Date: Unknown | Model: Unknown
What is Identity? Identity aims to be a kind of GTA MMORPG, allowing you to have a virtual second life in a large online city. There, you can either open a store and afford an apartment with the money you earn, decorating it as you wish, or you can become a police officer or a criminal.
It is possible to produce drugs and sell them, but this brings the police down on you. Anyone playing as a police officer will frequently pursue criminals.
How has the development progressed so far? Identity was announced in 2015. A Kickstarter campaign in that same year raised around 130,000 euros, and further crowdfunding increased the amount to approximately 1.3 million euros.
Afterward, the team worked diligently on the MMO. The first module, where you can explore the city market, was released at the end of 2018. Further modules, such as S.W.A.T. and Racing, were planned to follow. In May 2019, the last news entry appeared on the game’s website.
Recently, the team stated in a newsletter that they are still working on Identity, but from now on, they will only release smaller updates instead of large modules. Funds are simply not sufficient to work on the MMO full-time. The developers have also asked the community for help and are still looking for staff. However, since May, we have heard nothing more about the game.
Why might the release never happen? It is clear that the developers have overextended themselves with this project. The funds have run out, and only part-time work is being done on Identity. A lot of work remains for the team to turn what they currently have into a real MMORPG. It seems unrealistic that this game can be completed.
