MMORPGs have been around for a long time, and the genre has changed significantly over the years. We present six things that probably only old MMORPG players know.
1. PvP with Full Loot
What is it? PvP is still known today. However, games like Ultima Online offered a special form of it. If you got into a fight with another player, you risked losing your entire equipment. The victor could loot the body of the defeated and take everything they wanted.

Why is it not around today? It takes a long time to acquire good equipment in an MMORPG. Losing it in a fight can be frustrating. Players are thrown back repeatedly. Today, gamers also place great value on defining themselves through their equipment. It needs to be as epic and cool as possible. Losing these identifiers is too “hard” for many players.
Players were not keen on losing everything, which is why even back then, people left Ultima Online, and a new server with more lenient PvP rules had to be introduced.
Do players wish for this system to return? There are indeed MMO fans who desire more risk and thus more reward in the game. Furthermore, PvP battles often represent a good endgame element. Players enjoy measuring themselves against others. And for that, they want corresponding rewards. However, full loot goes too far for many.
