DrDisrespect receives a permanent ban
What happened? On June 26, the news suddenly broke that DrDisrespect was banned on Twitch. Shortly thereafter, it became clear that the ban is permanent – he can never stream on Twitch again.
There has been no official reason for the ban to this day. DrDisrespect has always been considered a controversial streamer – his name is also a program. However, it was surprising that Guy Beahm, the man behind the character DrDisrespect, signed an exclusive contract with Twitch in March 2020.
Since then, there have been many theories surrounding the ban. The streamer himself hinted that the ban was related to the exclusive contract Twitch made with him. So Twitch allegedly provoked a dismissal of DrDisrespect with the ban. It has been suggested that his salary was too high and that they are now paying 3 other streamers instead.
Officially, there is no statement about it.
Why was the case discussed? Especially the background of the ban gave room for discussion. Because nobody knew why DrDisrespect was banned, there were dozens of theories behind it.
There was even a suspicion that the ban was a PR stunt. However, this turned out to be false. Others thought that DrDisrespect was punished for past misdeeds. Twitch allegedly wanted to send a message that one should behave on the platform. After all, the streamer made headlines in 2019 when he streamed from a bathroom at E3.
It wasn’t until 30 hours after the ban that DrDisrespect spoke out himself, and a first hint about the ban reason wasn’t given until August 8. In the meantime, there was heated discussion.
How did the ban end? DrDisrespect is currently active on YouTube and has not returned to Twitch. There he is also successful and regularly streams for thousands of viewers.
A return to Twitch seems unlikely.
