There’s a little researcher and explorer inside Aoyama, and when one day a horde of strange penguins causes a stir in his hometown, he wants to investigate with his friends and the dental assistant.

“Penguin Highway” is a fascinating, sometimes somewhat crazy film. The coming-of-age story is certainly among the most beautiful films of recent years and its design reminds one of the well-known Ghibli films.

If you have always wanted to know what a “penguin highway” is, you should definitely give this film a chance.

Your Name. – Yesterday, Today and Forever

“Your Name” tells the story of two young people. They exchange bodies whenever they sleep, which causes a lot of chaos and confusion since they suddenly find themselves in the opposite gender. The special thing is: The two protagonists do not know each other at all.

However, while they keep switching bodies, they leave diary entries for each other and thus get closer. They tease each other, curse about one another, and give tips for the next day.

Cortyn does not count “Your Name” among the best anime films that everyone should see for nothing.

A Silent Voice

In school, a boy bullies a deaf girl and the rest of the class finds it funny too. But surprisingly, the tables turn, and suddenly he becomes an outsider himself. From then on, he becomes the next victim of bullying. Many years later, at college, he encounters the girl he bullied – and sees it as his chance to make amends for past mistakes.

The film addresses many serious topics and is not necessarily an anime for a fun and cheerful evening. However, it is worth engaging with the protagonist and his story.

Josie, The Tiger and the Fish

It’s about a young student who works alongside his studies to earn enough money for his dream. By chance, he meets a paraplegic girl who lives very withdrawn in her own world. He then agrees with her grandmother that he will accompany the girl through daily life and will be paid for it.

However, the relationship between the two is not always easy, as both are completely different beings with their own ideas. But before the young student wants to give up, he wants to fulfill one last wish of the girl and take her to the sea. Because the love for the sea and the underwater world connects the two opposite people.

If you want to watch a beautiful yet sad film, then definitely give “Josie” a chance. It’s a touching and loving film that you can watch on an evening.

Lupin III. – The Castle of Cagliostro

Lupin III. is actually a master thief who has to solve cases from time to time. In his film “The Castle of Cagliostro,” he travels to the smallest country in the world, “Cagliostro.”

But instead of stealing something, he accidentally saves the beautiful princess Clarisse, who is subsequently kidnapped. He then does everything he can to free the woman while getting deeper into the dark machinations of the Cagliostro family. At the same time, he is pursued by an inspector and the Japanese police, which makes the rescue operation even more complicated. Because everyone wants to find out what lies behind the great treasure of Cagliostro.

You can definitely tell the film’s age (from 1979) by now, but the story is still worth seeing. Especially if you already know Lupin III from his other films, you should give this anime a chance. By the way, the film is by none other than Hayao Miyazaki, whom many know better for his Ghibli films.
