5. Rocket League (49.9 million)
Genre: Sports | Developer: Psyonix | Platform: PC, PS4, Xbox One | Release date: July 7, 2015 | Model: Free2Play
What kind of game is this? Rocket League is an arcade-style sports game. You aim to get the ball into the opponent’s goal with cars. Rocket League is played in modes of 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, or 4v4. The physics of the game is not realistic: you can also drive briefly along ceilings and walls of the arenas, perform jumps, or have other abilities to get the ball into the goal. Meanwhile, Rocket League has become part of Epic Games and has been free to play since summer 2020.
On the next page, we will present you with spot 4. A game that has been a model for many other games of this kind.
With Destruction: AllStars, a similarly chaotic car game was supposed to be released, but with a focus more on destruction than on ball games. However, Sony has now declared that the PS5 title will instead be included in PS Plus.
