The meeting was organized by the gaming community “The Terran Order”, which gave away various in-game items and pledge ships among the registered participants.
One of the proud participants posted a picture of the event in the MMORPG forum on Reddit – but the community responded with disdain.
Still no finished game after over 10 years
How the community reacts: Under the Reddit post, there are some disparaging comments towards Star Citizen and the development team, which received many upvotes.
One user sarcastically remarks: “What if the developers meet, present a actually finished game, and release it at this point?” Another replies sharply: “Another 500 million, and I swear, folks, it will be everything we promised.”
A few comments find the community meeting really cool, but the negative attitude towards Star Citizen in the subreddit cannot be denied.
Why this negativity? Star Citizen is a SciFi MMO that has been in production since 2011. It is funded through a Kickstarter campaign that started in 2012, where interested players can donate money for development. So far, over 950 million US dollars have been donated.
In gameplay terms, Star Citizen has great ambitions. From a persistent universe with various systems and planets to space battles with spaceships and shooter gameplay, as well as mining and trading systems or space piracy, everything is supposed to be possible.
Originally, Star Citizen was supposed to be released in 2014, but the final release is still not in sight.
