A controversial streamer from the USA is recreating the Hunger Games from the film series “The Hunger Games”. A total of 50 streamers are participating and competing for a prize pool of 100,000 Euros. The event takes place today, on August 15th.
Who is hosting the Hunger Games? Former Twitch streamer Paul “Ice Poseidon” Denino is the creator of the real-life Hunger Games. He no longer streams on Twitch, but on the rival platform Kick. The games are supposed to be broadcasted here.
Ice Poseidon has over 150,000 followers on Kick and an average of 6,138 viewers per stream (via streamcharts.com). His main content consists of Just Chatting and IRL streams; he also regularly streams gambling content on Kick, though less frequently.
On an international level, Ice Poseidon is one of the biggest streamers. In the German-speaking area, this is Trymacs. We introduce him to you in the video:
This is how the real Hunger Games are set up
How do the games proceed? One thing to note: it will not be like in the movies where the opponents are actually killed. The exact method of how participants can be eliminated has not yet been disclosed.
The games will take place in an outdoor arena, the exact location of which is not known. If a participant gets too close to the boundary of the marked area, an alarm will sound that all other contestants can hear.
Participants will wear vests that can detect blows. However, they must be struck hard enough. Apparently, the method of elimination is directly related to these vests.
Additionally, the radius in which participants can move will be increasingly restricted, so they come closer together.
Who is participating in the games? The candidates are exclusively Kick streamers. They are all equipped with a GPS tracker, so they can always be found. The following streamers are participating in the event:

When do the games take place? The event starts on August 15, 2024, at 8:00 PM (CET/UTC +1).
Where will the games be broadcasted? Everything is supposed to be broadcasted on the streaming platform Kick. There will be a main view on the Ice Poseidon channel and simultaneously, each streamer will stream their view on their own Kick channel. This way, viewers can choose whom they want to watch.
On a live map on the Hunger Games website, viewers will be able to see the locations of the individual contestants.
Why is streamer Ice Poseidon considered controversial? Ice Poseidon was highly controversial during his time on Twitch. He relied on shock effects to generate attention. Ultimately, he was permanently banned from Twitch in 2017 because he was on a plane that was swatted by his fans.
His influence on Twitch is still felt, especially among streamers like Mizikif, his former cameraman, or Amouranth.
There are also elements of the Hunger Games event that can be criticized: on the website, viewers can bet on their favorites or on the people they think will win. Additionally, it is possible to sponsor a participant with $250.
As a viewer, you can also send items to the participants. To do this, donations must be made and a suggestion for an item must be submitted. The items will then be sent to the participant via capsule with a parachute, just like in the movies.
Ice Poseidon is not the first to take a game show idea from a movie or series. Only the game concept from these media is taken, not the seriousness. YouTuber MrBeast hosted games based on the well-known Netflix series “Squid Game” with various participants in one of his videos.
