Not only since Lady Dimitrescu from Resident Evil Village, there are women in video games who are really nasty and evil. We present to you 5 villains who show their dark side in the MMORPGs WoW, Guild Wars 2, Blade & Soul, and Final Fantasy XIV.
Darth Vader and the Emperor in Star Wars, Saruman and Sauron in The Lord of the Rings or Arthas in World of Warcraft as well as the Big Bad Wolf, who eats six of the seven little goats …
Villains in stories are often male – but not always.
Against the dark lords stand occasionally nasty women. Cersei in Game of Thrones, Annie Wilkes in Stephen King’s Misery, the witch from Hansel and Gretel, and of course the nearly 3-meter tall vampire lady Lady Dimitrescu from Resident Evil Village, after which the internet is currently going crazy.
Even before the release of Resident Evil 8, the nearly 2.90 m tall vampire woman transformed into an internet sensation since she played a crucial role in the demo. Fans requested, “Please step on me” – Capcom simulated in a YouTube video how it would affect the poor victims of the gigantic vampire if she really stepped on them. Spoiler alert: Not good.
No question, Lady Dimitrescu is an impressive opponent.
But what about online games? Even in MMORPGs, you will occasionally face female boss enemies. We would like to present a selection of the 5 worst villains in MMORPGs here.
Sylvanas from World of Warcraft
Who is she? Sylvanas Windrunner was a ranger-general from Quel’Thalas in Warcraft 3, the homeland of the blood and high elves. She fought for her people in the war against the Horde and against the undead Scourge. However, she had no chance against the Lich King and his army. She fell in the battle for the powerful Sunwell.
Lich King Arthas brought her back as a banshee as punishment for her resistance. Willingless, she fought many battles for Arthas, but eventually managed to break free from his control. Over time, she became a significant threat to the Alliance and the Horde and still plays an important role in the story of WoW.
This is her role in WoW: As Banshee Queen, she leads the undead faction of the Forsaken. She repeatedly appears in the story as an antagonist, devising plans to annihilate Arthas and protect and advance her people, the undead.
What makes her so “badass”? Her tragic backstory and how her character evolves throughout the entire story of World of Warcraft resonates well with players. On one hand, she is a character you can empathize with, but on the other hand, she is also a nasty villain whose actions are cruel. What she does is understandable. She is not a soulless boss who simply appears to obliterate the heroes.
