The Vaults from Fallout have a bad reputation. This is due to some of the cruel experiments that were conducted in many bunkers. However, there are also positive examples that show: Life in the Vault can also be very pleasant.
Vaults serve in the world of Fallout – contrary to initial assumptions – not to protect people from the post-apocalypse, but to conduct perfidious experiments underground. Some of the worst we have presented in a separate list on MeinMMO.
Today, however, we want to look at Vaults that are the exact opposite: namely places where one can live pleasantly and even in luxurious circumstances. For various reasons, there are no or only “good” experiments on the residents, and instead a livable environment – which in the wasteland is pure luxury.
Vault 81

The first Vault on the list shows what could have been if the Overseers had not followed their orders. This bunker was also intended for experiments by Vault-Tec. They wanted to create a cure that would help against all kinds of diseases.
The residents of Vault 81 were to be the test subjects for this. But when the Great War began and everyone retreated underground, Overseer Dr. Olivette suddenly had a guilty conscience. She shut down the system responsible for releasing the diseases that were to be researched.
At the same time, three scientists were locked away in a secret part of the Vault, where they conducted experiments on animals away from the people. The actual Vault residents lived quite a normal life on the other side. There was running water, electricity, and generally good supplies.
In the year 2277, the then Overseer opened the doors to make contact with the outside world. This was to obtain food and spare parts for repairs.
This showed how much the Vault residents had gotten used to their comparatively luxurious life: They reacted to strangers with great skepticism and showed them no trust. The fear that an intruder could disturb the peace was too great.
