The Elder Scrolls Online offers a plethora of content and activities for players. But what to do when boredom strikes in the vast MMORPG? We at MeinMMO have a few tips for you.
As in many MMORPGs, there are plenty of quests, dungeons, and raids as well as PvP escapades to tackle in ESO. But what to do when you’re just not feeling it or have played everything? You can either give in to boredom or carry out some of the following activities.
The order of activities is completely random and reflects no ranking.
1 – Fishing
Why is this interesting? Fishing is also considered a relaxing activity in the real world. The same is true in MMORPGs, and many players can spend hours fishing.
So do it the same way. Get some strong bait, find a fishing spot in your favorite zone, and cast your line. Depending on the water type, you need different bait; if you only get “used bait” while fishing, you have used the wrong bait. The right baits are:

As a reward for your efforts, you may also receive wet jute sacks, which can contain valuable items. And from the fish, you might obtain the rare resource “perfect fish roe,” which is needed for the coveted XP potions.
2 – Farming Transmutation Stones
Why should I do this? Transmutation crystals are incredibly valuable because you need them to change the properties of items. This is particularly useful when you have a great item, but its current property doesn’t fit your current build.
Additionally, transmutation crystals will become even more important with the release of Update 28, as you will be able to re-craft items you’ve already unlocked from your collection at any time. This also requires transmutation crystals.
You can obtain the gems from various activities that you can do repeatedly:
- First Daily Random Dungeon
- Pledges of the Unflinching
- Weekly Trial Quests
- Leaderboards for Arena, Trial, and Battlegrounds
- Completion rewards for Alliance War campaigns
- Mahlstrom Arena in Veteran Mode
- Dragonstar Arena in Veteran Mode
You also receive crystals daily when you earn 20,000 Alliance Points in PvP.
3 – Completing Crafting Writs
Why is this a good idea: Especially if you have multiple characters, you should always complete the crafting tasks for each character every day. This has several advantages:
- You gain experience points
- You receive rewards in the form of recipes and resources
- You may find treasure maps to particularly fruitful resources
- You level up your crafting
- You earn gold
- You can get valuable master writs
Particularly the latter are sought after, as they trigger special crafting quests. For these, you receive writ vouchers that can be exchanged for rare motifs, items, or furnishing items for housing.
Also, keep in mind that the gold reward for crafting is not bad. You can earn several thousand gold per character, and if you do this with multiple heroes, the money just rolls in.
4 – Furnishing your House
Why this is fun: Since Update 27, housing in ESO is even more enjoyable than it already was. Because now you can place all sorts of stuff in the game’s houses, and you can also let your assistants and pets walk along programmable paths through your home.
This will only get better with the new feature of house guests in Update 28. Because then you will have even more NPCs to place in your home, making your domicile even more lively.
In addition to the joys of a beautifully furnished home, there are also useful things like your own workbench or a chest that is always accessible. So if you’re bored, you can spend hours here setting up epic interior decorations.

5 – Engaging in Role-Play
Why this is a good idea: The Elder Scrolls Online is a paradise for role-players. The vibrant world with its rich lore invites you to fully immerse yourself in your role. Then you are no longer just a player wanting to run some dungeons with your Nightblade. Instead, you behave authentically in the game like Rashea Quickclaw, the cunning Khajiit thief, who is searching for companions for a heist in the White-Gold Tower.
You can express your role-play in chat, but the numerous emotes in the game also allow for excellent role-playing. You can let your heroes drink and eat in various ways, play different instruments, and lean bored against a wall. There are also numerous “personalities” that change your entire animation profile, such as the dignified stance of a lord, the grim pose of an assassin, or the silly antics of a court jester.
To find like-minded individuals for role-play, specialized RP guilds are available. You can find them in the guild finder under the respective descriptions.
